That is the name of the new Powerstroke replacement. But I guess everyone already knows that. I was not ever going to look at another truck because I really like everything about my 2008 King Ranch. Then I talked to the service manager about the coming 2011 Super Duty Fords. So I guess sometime next year I will be looking seriously at a new one.
One big thing is that the cab does not have to be removed to work on the engine. Mileage is another big factor, over 20 mpg rather than 13. The fit and finish of the Fords appeal to me.
I like the idea of a factory installed turnover ball type fifth wheel hitch and in the box plug rather than having to do it as an add on. There is a lot of pluses that appeal to me.

We will get to drive one this week. I will not believe any of the marketing BS. We get 16/18 Solo now on our 08 6.4L so why would 20 be a big deal. I like new trucks but will wait on this one till the marketing myths are busted.

I agree with you and I'm also looking at the new 6.7L Ford. Solo my 09 6.4L averages 11/12 mpg no matter if I am on the highway with cruise set or in town. I did get 14 "once" on a road trip earlier this year, but that was an exception. I do love my King Ranch interior and am waiting for the dealer to get one in stock before making any final arrangements.

I am most curious to find out how you are averaging 16/18 solo??? Even with my cruise set at 60 mph, I still cannot get this thing to get past 12 mpg. I have the 3.73 rear end SRW and I believe you have the 4.10 rear end DRW. Ford said my truck is flashed with all the latest updates. Have you changed anything else on your truck? Going from 21/22 mpg with my Duramax to 11/12 mpg with this Powerstroke is not making me a happy camper.

From what I read, "some" engine repair can be done with cab on. As Rich said, only real life experience will tell.
Rich, you better hang on to that truck. My friend here is getting 12-13 solo with his 6.4 SRW one ton.

An example of the 6.4 L repair difficulties is if you need to replace the fuel "pump". It is mounted under the engine. The only way to get to it is to pull the cab and then pull the engine. The tab on that repair is a mere $11,000. Yeah, count the zeros. And it may not be covered by the warranty if the problem occurred because you drove it extensively with the tank less than a 1/4 full. The fuel needs to be above 1/4 to provide enough vapor pressure to keep it working properly and not over heating.
I just had a cracked radiator replaced. Since I am at 51,000 miles, it was on me for $1,200 and that was after he gave me a $100 discount. I can still buy an ESP from Ford, bumper to bumper, for about $2,000. That would take me 48 months or 100,000 miles. That's their best coverage with $100 deductible. There are lesser policies available. However, if I trade it in the next year, that seems like money likely wasted. But maybe i spend the money and wait for the second generation of the Scorpion. Decisions, decisions. Maybe if I wasn't a Scot, I could spend money easier.

I talked w/my Ford shop foreman after reading about the 2011. He told me to come back in late summer or fall after they see how the new ones run/hold up.

Well I would like to trade in my 2005 6.0 L but I do not have a good enought reason to do that now. I get between 17 and 18 mpg solo and 10 to 11 pulling. It only has 43,000 plus miles on it and has caused me no problems. So I guess I will keep it for awhile.

RAK, that is the mileage I am getting on my '05 6.0, both solo and towing. 105,000 miles on it. Just got it a few months ago and will keep it! Moving UP from a gasser to this diesel has really made me a happy camper. Stiles, we just were handled greatly by Good Sam with their ESP on our Monty when the motor went out in the landing jacks and so we went ahead and got the GS ESP on the Ford.

Guys,Guys,Guys, Why are you being so negative towards the NEW Ford? Pullin parts here, yankin cabs there, don't you know this one is a winner. So don't be afraid- just go out and treat yourself to a new Ford. Especially you Rich, you deserve one .

Sky.. My 08 is absolutely stock. 4:10 Diff all the latest flashes. Solo at 62mph CC on we do a easy 15/16 and 17/18 is not uncommon. We do 12/13 solo in heavy traffic. 10/11 towing ths 3400 anchor..however.. the trip up from Florida this week was the worst we ever did towing..the highest we saw was 9.5mpg. We are due for the 30K maint. Now we always set the CC at 62 towing and rarely do solo interstate driving. The Solo MPG we state is 95% at speeds 45/55 mph in Florida. When here at home we take the Diesel out for a "Sunday drive" 20 miles west and 20 miles back east on a 4 lane, CC at 62mph and 17's and 18's are common. We have always got fair MPG on this big heavy truck. I do not understand the low numbers.

Rich are you still putting in the cetane or any other diesel additives?
That may make the difference. The quality of the fuel. The grade of the fuel also goes into the outcome.
My chevy just turned 36000 and it is the same 13 - 15 in town, better on the open roads, but not great numbers. I've never broke into the 20's. I've never gotten the mileage of the pre 07 GMs. Those mpgs are a thing of history. New EPA restrictions on these trucks have made highe mpg obsolete.

That 4:10 rear end gives better mileage than the 4:33 in mine.

Two things on my mind now. One, my 08 F350 has a 430 rear end, so I know my mileage is not as great as some. Two, when I went to the Ford website and "built" a 2011 F350, I tried to put in the same things I have on the current truck, but when I got to the rear end, there was no 430 available for the DRW crew cab diesel. Will it haul the same weight as my 08? I have only had it for 18 months, so am not even thinking about changing yet, but inquiring minds want to know.

We use cetane booster on a regular basis and in Florida use Shell premium fuel. We are also light on the throttle. Ford recommends a centane rating of 45. Most diesel is 40. I am sure I got about 25 gallons of bad diesel at a Pilot station on our way back from Fla or it was LSD fuel as the truck ran like crap for the next 200 miles and went into regen twice.

Diesel fuel can vary from the west to east and north to south in North America. A great majority of those refinerys are in our back yard here with in Alberta, specifically the Tar Sands. Cetane numbers can vary drastically and the better fuels that will give better performance will be the LSD and not the ULSD. ULSD is more difficult to refine as they strip more sulphur out of an already great fuel. I get an average of 15 to 20 percent better fuel mileage with the Low Suphur Diesel. Emissions restrictions and control will continue to cost the consumer more and more to a point where the diesel engine will likely have a tax attached to defer the purchaser to other alternatives? Interesting society we live in.

As we noted we have that seat of the pants feeling that the truck is not preforming as well as it has.Example pulling up fancy gap we normally have to back off to keep the EGT at @ 1200 degrees.This time we could not get above 30 boost and had trouble making 50 MPH. We got @30 boost and we could get no more ..flooring it had no effect.
Today we went to our weekly/"old retired guys" luncheon. We ran east on a 4 lane at 62MPH, CC 20 miles 16.8 mpg...west bound same settings 16.4 mpg.. Less than normal.Should be seeing 17/18 on that run.
Then went to Sears on the Ohio TPK west bound 65mph CC 16.1mph East bound we pushed it a bit ran 70/75 with a few passing burst of 80/85. MPG at the toll gate 15.1. we have a appointment to take it into Ford for the 30K maint Tuesday.
I feel we have lost @ 2mpg and some loss of power. This truck has always performed well and our MPG towing and solo IMO has been good for a 9250lbs truck.

Let us know if the dealer finds any thing amiss. Pulling my little 2955 was no problem up fancy gap at 75. Egt be darned. I live near fancy gap. North on 81 about 1 hour at exit 137 Salem. I got about 15 tp 16 MPG with my F250 6.4 at about 60 mph on the road. Tuned I get 20+.
