bad injector
Okay guys..fill me in. The shop called and said I have one bad injector, on a 2006 F350 6.0 diesel, with 31,707 miles.

I would think that even with one bad injector it still would run. Is it still under warranty? The 6.0 is not from Ford and they have had big problems with that motor. Good luck and keep us informed.

I think it's still covered by warranty. Injectors are a fact of life. They could go bad early like yours did or last 300,000 miles (or more).

The fuel injector is an electro/mechanical device. And they do sometimes fail. And there have been a number of people who have said they had one (some?) fail. But I had an '04 F250 6.0 that I traded at 54,000+ miles and never had one fail. The '07 F350 6.0 I traded for now has 45,000+ miles and also no injector problems.

As I recall, the 6.0 has a 5 year 100k mile warranty on the engine. I would think an injector would be included in that although I do know from experience a fuel pump is not considered part of the engine. It won't run without it, but.... I raised a stink and called Ford Customer Service right from their dealership. Ford then talked to the service manager and then told me he'd make me a "special deal." He offered to let me go for just "his cost" of the fuel pump and no labor charge. So, instead of paying a $750+ bill I paid $107. That kinda gives you a feel for their markup, huh?
Good luck on the injector. I bet they'll tell you it's not covered and you're past the 3 yr bumper to bumper warranty. So, you might consider my approach.

You should have a 100,000 mile warranty on that engine. Yes that engine will still run with one bad injector but will be lacking power and will run rough. If the engine quite and would not start or run, I would question the cam position sensor, as this was a common problem on the 7.3s and 6.0 liter engines. Happened to us with an 03 F350 7.3, all towing and repairs were picked up by Ford.

As of yesterday, Ford is covering the repair. I quizzed the service tech and he agreed, the truck should have kept running. My shoer also thought it might be the cam sensor. Hopefully today I will have more answers. New turbo last month, this problems this month..geez

Here's the update. They only found the injector bad. Asked again why this would cause the truck to stop running and was told that if the injector broke "open" it would dump fuel down into the cylinder causing hydrolock. If you read up in hydrolock, it's not a good thing to have happen to your motor. Picked the truck up, seems to be running good, but doesn't want to start that easily. More problems in the future? The only interesting thing is my mpg jumped up from an adverage of 10 to over 13 hauling home last night. Hmmm....

I think that did not fix the problem as one injector would not make the motor quit running. CPS on that motor ,maybe but they have not been a problem. I think you need someone that knows diesels to look at it. Please let us know how things work out.

Many times it will not be the injector but only the wiring to the electronic actuation of the injectors themselves as these wires pass through some pretty tight and high delta temp areas that are vulnerable to damage over time ( quite common on the 7.3s). If there was actually had a bad injector that failed, and by replacing with new , fuel mileage would now be better as developed horsepower, efficency and all 8 cylinders will be performing rather than 7 or less..

Called local ford dealer. He definately did not think the truck should be cranking over as much as it is and will not charge me to have their guy give it a look over. They want it cold, so I will drop it off Sunday night for them to look at Monday am. Have to leave for a horse show Tuesday, so I hope it gets the all clear. I can work around not having the truck, just makes things more complicated.

May have had something in your fuel that faulted your injectors with a result of some causing leak back. May take a number of cranks to get pressure up. Your Dealer can check this all out.
Hope you get to the bottom of this and can ubnderstand the frustration and anxiety.
