They work, sorta. I bought one for the passenger side tank so that I could add an extend-a-stay BBQ hose and still have the hand fitting. It works as long as the driver side tank doesn't go empty. Then, with the regulator switch-over, the gauge reads very low.

They cost less at "Costco" we have two, one on each side.

I got one at Lowe's, works fine as long as it is only on one tank. I keep it on the service tank and move it when I switch tanks. Like snfexpress says, it doesn't read well with two tanks.

Pour hot water on the tank and you can feel the level of LPG. I have a device that mounts on the changeover valve and turns on a LED inside the rig. Got it years ago on a closeout table and it works great.

I got mine at Harbor Freight and as everyone has said-- It works great on one tank but won't work for both! I also switch mine WHEN I need to switch tanks. I think it cost me about $14-15 at Harbor!

I tried a very similar gauge years ago and found it seriously lacking. The problem is the propane in the tank expands with heat and contracts with cold. The gauge doesn't account for that. It looked low in the cool mornings and considerably higher in the hot afternoon sun. Maybe the new ones are better but I don't see how.

Steve,
You are probably right, but I can't tell much difference between the cool mornings and the hot afternoon readings, but it is better than not having any idea about how much propane is in the tank.
Those hearty people can just unhook the lines and lift to see how much it weighs...or pour hot water on it, or just guess and fill it anyway.
We use so little propane, that it is just another tool to know when to change the tanks.
