front stabilizer motor issue
When we were setting up this evening, I noticed that the front legs weren't working properly. While lowering the legs, I noticed that the motor was skipping once in a while. I looked and can see where the motor jumps when we press the button to lower the legs. I can move the motor with my hand. Is this normal?

I'm a little confused because I don't have hydraulics on my front stabilizers. Mine run off a 12V motor. I only have hydraulics on the slides. I didn't realize that there were hydraulics connected to the front stabilizers.

I'm confused, too. I thought the only units Keystone ever produced with the hydraulic landing gear was the Cambridge.

I meant the 12 volt motor on the front stabilizers. It had been a long day and I was having a brain cramp. The motor started skipping like a screw driver does when it slips off the head of a screw. Also like I said, I can actually move the motor by hand.

I asked that question some time ago about the motor moving around a bit by hand....that is a normal thing. The skipping is not. You might check all the "screw tight" electrical connections and the drive rod connections .That is on my monthly routine maint task list. You know how these things bounce down the roads???????

Try watching the motor while your wife engages the button. Mine sounded like it was slipping a cog also until the dealer noticed that it was the motor itself turning. The spacers on the motor shaft allowed enough slack for the motor to turn periodically. They added a couple washers and the motor didn't turn anymore. Has worked great for over a year now.

I hope you're not experiencing stripped gears?

That's what I'm afraid of. We will find out next week when I hook up again to move about 1/4 mile to my summer site.

Gary,
Check the shaft bolt below the motor. It is a 1/4-20 bolt but can loosen or shear. If it does so it will bump the motor. Our motor also moves around a bit.

I had an issue with mine yesterday. One of the long screws that go into the round end of the motor came out. I couldn't get it back in, so I took it all apart. It ends up being tricky because there's a magnet inside the motor, and it fights trying to get the screw lined up. But....... there are only a couple of screws to remove to get to the gears, just to rule them out as part of the problem. A tag on my motor said something to the effect that it had a slip clutch; that might be the thin black box that the motor mounts to. Get your original one working again if you can; it'll save you $150 + . Good luck.
I forgot to mention that the landing gear can always be operated manually so you'll never be stuck someplace because the motor isn't working, but you all knew that!

I had a similar problem with our unit and I just tightened the mounting screws or bolts and it worked fine. Still moved a little but not like it was doing.

Well, I found out what the problem was. Always make sure the rear stabilizers are not locked down before raising the front end. OOOPS!! Luckily no damage. Another one for the "how embarrassing" file.

Been there done that Couldn't figure it out, did everything but rebuild it on site, and then a friend said,"could having the back jacks down do anything?" Duuuh?
I learned and am continuing to learn, it's a great life!!!!
