My tank heaters
Just a question
I did see that some people travel with their tank heaters on. Which was also my idea. I did winterize only by blowing out the water lines and the pink stuff in the traps since we are traveling south at the end of December. My main concern was the water tank to have water for the toilet while traveling.
My trip time will be two days long reaching South Carolina day one then Florida day two( not a concern here).
Is there anything else I may need to do that I may have forgotten?
Thanks for any advice
Bob

Don't forget water heater tank. Fresh water will likely be ok if you put about 10 gallons in and you're moving. Unlikely it will freeze sloshing around.

We are in SC now and no problem here. We have left NY in December and January before and left all tanks and water lines empty and just used the public rest rooms at rest areas till the first night. Then added water to tank. From there on you're good.

We have done the same leaving the lines empty until we get further south. Instead of public restrooms we carry a couple of gallons of water in the truck for flushing the stools.

Great solution. We will use this idea next time we do this.

Do your lighted switches light up?
I have a 2020 Montana with tank heater switches. The lights do not come on even when the outside temp is in the 30's I pulled the switches and they are controlled by a relay. Not sure what turns the relay on? the light switches do not apply power to pads that is done by the relay. Is the thermostat for the pads built into the pads.
I read that the in command system needs to be programmed through one of the aux modes. I can find any thing that tells me the heaters are controlled with the in command system.

For mine 2019 3130re, the tank heater switches light when you turn them on.
Post #14 above shows a picture of the label on the heater pad. They have a built in thermostat that turns on at 45⁰F and off at 67⁰F.
For mine, there is a red in line fuse above the hydraulic system reservoir in the corner. Make sure that fuse is pushed in all the way.
Mine decided not to work when I needed them and someone told me where that fuse was. Once I pushed the fuse all the way in the tank heater switch lights started working again.

About 5A. Each heater pad when turned on.
65W ÷ 13vdc = 5A

The service department at the RV dealership says that some blue holding tank heater indicator switches illuminate when in the on position and some models they do not.
I switch my holding tank heater switches on and they don't light up. I guess I'll check my owner's manual to find out. All other heater/pump switches illuminate when turned on so it is confusing

Mine actually do light up when on.
I was originally told that they would only light when the pad is actively heating. I have since found that to be untrue. The pads have a thermostat that turns the heating element on or off based on a preset temp. The light is on any time the switch is on.
If you have a clamp on meter, you can test the heating element based on the amp draw to see if they are actually heating. I can't remember the temp setting but it has to be pretty cold before the element activates.
