Our second home base is in San Felipe Mexico about 120 miles south of the California border town of Calexico. Like Puerto Penasco as mentioned above it's very safe, but a bit more "raw" where Penasco has a few more U.S. type amenities San Felipe still feels like a fishing village at times. Particularly when you need something as simple as bed sheets and need to drive 100 miles to get them. They both have the best shrimp ever!

Joe, we stayed at Island Retreat on Fort Morgan road for 7 years and then decided last year to go to Gulf State Park. We like the large paved pads and patios there. Hard to get in either place. Might be able to come for a week or two at either place in Feb. maybe you could get a month or more, especially in March. Gulf State Park keeps so many sites open for short term stays also. I teach a line dance class at the park and we will be back there this winter after Christmas. Look us up if you come. I will post on this forum what site we are on. Hope to meet up with you.

Our favorite place to winter is the mountains of Colorado. Love watching the storms hit the mountains while we bask in the sun and warmth.

This discussion is very helpful to my wife and I who are also looking for the perfect place to overwinter. I favor Arizona and my wife leans toward South Carolina. But it also reminds me of a character I met in the Adirondack Park in New York years ago.
He was the camp host at a campground called Paradox Lake a very nice camp ground in the park. He was born in the area and spent his entire life living in the Adirondack Mountains. When I ask him if he still spent the winters in the mountains he told me he now found it too cold and went south for the winter. When I ask if he went to Florida he told me. “No, that he went to Albany”.
This by the way this is my argument against wintering in South Carolina. So next December 26 I guess we will hitch up and go to South Carolina.

Rich, show the DW some of the Temps they had in SC recently, She might change her mind.
This is our third full winter in Florida, so maybe in another year or so we'll try the South West.

My in-laws purchased a pad in Indio, CA, just out of Palm Springs. They have a MH, and the park has rules about how new it must be, upkeep, etc, but visiting is really nice and a great break from the Seattle gray days in...well Nov-April (but they just go Jan-Mar). My grandparents used to winter over in Mesa and loved it, but it's changed a lot in 40 years.

Our favorite place to vacation during the winter is Arizona. A week in Lake Havasu and then 2 months in Scottsdale, Az. We enjoy doing some site seeing and going to Spring Training for San Francisco Giants and of course lots of golf.

We like Benson, Az. A park called Valley Vista. Small town not a real big park but a lot to do in the area. Everything you need in a small town atmosphere.

Since we have been wintering in St Petersburg/Maderia Beach for the past 8 years, guess our answer is Florida, gulf side.

We live about an hour west of Austin TX so wintering is not exactly an issue with us, nevertheless my wife being super cold natured as she is, we will load up after Christmas and head south. Last winter we actually celebrated Christmas at Disney's Fort Wilderness in Orlando and eventually made our way to the Florida Keys. We love the Keys but it is expensive to stay there and have to reserve very early for most good places. We will be heading to south Texas this year as we have in the past, South Padre Island is one of our favorites and it's only a 6 hr drive from our home. There's also a lot of really nice campgrounds in the Port Aransas area as well.
Maybe next year we'll head west and check out that part o9f the country.
