We have the Kipor 3000 that we purchased when we purchased the 06 3400. We do not boon dock and rarely have used it. We are going to sell it off and perhaps go with a Honda 2000 for the rare occasion we may use a generator on the road.
Having a Generator really depends on how you use the RV. There was time when power failures were common at Campgrounds .That does not happen very often anymore.
In our case it was a bad buy.

We have an Onan installed, 5500LP...works great and never grows legs and walks. We use ours more in the summer to pre-cool the rig down here in Texas.

I wanted something I could lift. The Champion Power Equipment No.75531i Inverter Generator, 3100-watt weights in at 80 lbs. I lifted it without problem at Cabala's, but they wanted $999.00 so I ordered it from Amazon for $767.98

We just purchased our Montana this past weekend and have not picked it up from the dealership yet. It is pre-wired from the factory for an Onan generator. We are looking to purchase and install an Onan and would like it to run on propane versus gasoline or diesel. The only problem is we cannot find any information on what size of an Onan we need to install. The camper is a Montana 3295RK and it says it is 35 foot in length and only has one AC. In our previous camper that we traded for the Montana we used the AC a total of 3 times in 6 years. Not usually in the camper during the heat of the day so rarely have a need to use it. Our need is mostly for the mountains during hunting season. This camper does not have solar connected to it yet but it will. Any suggestions?

Kevin, A 4000 will run one air. A 5500 will run 2 air's. Pre-wired for gen set is a option, not standard. You sure it is pre-wired?
Ask the the Dealer for a copy of the build sheet. It will have all factory installed options on it. He will have to cover the right side since it will have his Dealer prices on it. He may call it his invoice from Keystone. Looks like this. This is mine.

2 Honda 2000's with extended run fuel tank for boon docking. We also went solar - 3 panels, 4 6V batteries, with a 2000 watt inverter so the generators really only come out when we need to run A/C while camping off the grid.

Thanks JIB for your help. We have confirmed that the unit is prewired and ready for the generator. Just had no idea what the minimum size would need to be. Plus wanting to install LP since that is what it is pre-set for. Will now begin the process of finding the 4000 versus the 5500 or bigger. Thanks again.

Another vote for Yamaha 3000iesb boost. Had it three years and lots of hours. We have run "one of two" 15k air units and balance of electrical without incident for weeks straight! Yes 24/7 at times, with extended fuel option. Has elect start with remote and optional hour meter. We service it religiously and have had no downtown. Great machine, I could not deal with two smaller units. Also it's less than 49 Decibles and lower in Generator Box. It's also safe for electronics!

Had a Honda EU2000i, but the wife's hair dryer (1850 watts, no wonder I smell burning hair ) would bring it to it's knees, or trip it off, so got a good deal (closeout) on a new Yamaha EF2400isHC which should be good for one item at a time, hair dryer being one of those. Only use it usually once a year for a dry camping event, and occasionally around the farm! Didn't have the need for a second Honda.

New member here. Just bought a2015 Montana legacy 3610. have had honda 3000i and twin 2000s have also had yamaha 3000i seb and now have twin yamaha 2000 is. On the 3000 series the yamaha is quieter and gives you wheels, fuel gauge battery cables. In the 2000 series the Hondas are slight quiter and have a larger engine by 20 ccs. The twins. Are much lighter than the 3000s. I cannot lift the 3000. Advantage is when ac is not needed, 1 2000 sips fuel. We gad a 4kw onan and that thing gulped gasoline.

If you the chance, go for an onan that runs 1800 rpms twin cylinder. They are heads and shoulders above the 3600 rpm models...

In my fuzion toy hauler I have the onan 5500 runs on gas works great with everything going in the hauler I use this 5'er for hunting and it stays out in the boondocks all the time. That is all I would want for this type of trailer. Our new Monty I use a Honda 3000 inverter gen. With remote start and love it. Will run 1 a/c without any problem and what ever else I need but for the most part we just charge the batteries as we boondock in pretty comfortable places with out using the a/c too much it's a bit heavy but I have a table set up and just roll it out and in the pickup so far it's been great.

We have an industrial Generac 5500 watt
But never take it with us.
It would be more trouble than it’s worth.
We haven’t had a need for it on the road when we travel.

Factory installed Onan Marquis Gold 5500LP. We have played the portable game for a while and after one was stolen we decided our next camper would have a built in Onan. We love it because it is full integrated into the system with no cords, and we draw on the propane in the tanks. The only downside I carrier a third 30lb tank as a back up.
