Yellow Microwave vent
My one year old 3150 RL has a microwave vent that has turned yellow from the sun.
Is there a brand that will not turn yellow and stay white?
Thanks Jim

Clean it good and spray with some white Krylon and it'll stay white forever

Jim, I'd go down to local Lowe's and buy some white paint for plastics. Take it off the side and give it a couple nice smooth coats. That will keep it from ever turning yellow, again,

Just take it off, scotchbrite it and paint it with paint made for covering plastic (find at Wally World, KMart, Lowes). It stays white for as long as you own the fiver that way. Works for porch lights and work light under bedroom as well.

I was told by the dealer that the reason they vents turn yellow is because the OEM manufacturer is using recycled plastic to mold the vent. If they used "virgin" plastic or new plastic they would not turn yellow! I noticed the vent was yellow on our new unit, since it had been sitting on the lot of better than a year, and they changed it out and now just waiting for it to yellow also. Notice this with the solar deck post lights at the S&B I bought also. Called the manufacturer of them and they admitted using recycled plastic to make their lights. They replaced them for free and told me they are now using virgin" plastic to make their lights.

I spray all the plastics with 303 protectant periodically. No yellowing at all yet.

As Hookman said, spray some Awesome on it and the yellow will just run off. It is amazing how well it works, and no other cleaning agent that I have found will do it like the Awesome does.

Well I got some Awesome spray cleaner as suggested, the yellow just ran off it. Now it is a pretty cream color.
Looks I need some Krylon spray now.

Although I painted mine some time ago, I also used to use Awesome ... works great for about a couple of months than break out the Awesome again. The kicker with Awesome is unless you had a towel or rag right under the vent or wetted down the side of the fiver, you'll notice streaks clear down to the point where it dripped on the ground. Awesome takes it all off ... dirt, yellowing, wax, shine off your white aluminum skirting below your exterior walls, shine off plastic fender skirts. It was a pain making what Awesome etched un- noticeable.

A little isopropyl alcohol will also remove the yellowing.

When we had our Monty in for repairs at the factory this year, they replaced the vent without being asked!
