My Hayes Energizer lll is 9 yrs old. Needs constant adjusting & level. Dealer rec Hayes Boss. He doesn't like Prodigy. Says it shuts done completely if anything goes wrong. I want to replace controller on my 2005 Dodge CTD. Recommendations please for easiest add on to use and hold adjustment.

Had a Prodigy P3 in the previous truck and never had one problem with it. Of course a Hayes dealer is going to recommend a Hayes controller over a Prodigy.

I am totally happy with my Prodigy P3 that I've had for 7 years. Never a problem. Took me 1 hour to install taking my time. It doesn't have to be leveled and you just buy a pre-made harness that is specific for your model truck. It's plug and play.

I did have a Prodigy until I went with a integrated controller. It worked well for me for over 5 years. Easy to install and setup. I know dozens of RVers that use a Prodigy and swear by them. Like said, I'd imagine a Hays dealer will push a Hays. I did have a Hays time delay brake controller back when ... it was what it was prior to the inertia controllers.

I believe the dealer may be correct about the P3 not working if something goes wrong. in August we spent almost 24 hours in rain driving and overnight in a rest stop, evidently the rain caused the breakaway switch to short, There was a Brake supply Line Short no brakes message flashing on the controller, and there definitely was not any trailers brakes when the message appeared once I disconnected the breakaway wire we had brakes again and no flashing red message.

Had a Prodigy on my old truck w/TT for six years without any problem. They even sent me a second when early on I thought there was an issue that turned out to be my own bad crimped wire problem. Current truck has an integrated, but I've still got that second one in a box somewhere, just in case.

I also used a Prodigy for years before having a built in. You only have to set it up once and works flawlessly thereafter.

I have the Prodigy 3 installed in my Ford Excursion when I owned a RV trailer. I now tow my Montana with a 2006 Ford F350 dually. Now question: My 2006 Ford F350 has a stock brake controller. Would I be smart if I moved the Prodigy 3 from my Excursion over to my F350 for use when towing my Montana? If so, how would I disable the stock brake controller?

I ordered the prodigy 3 on amazon. Thanks for all the replies. This seems the best way for me to go. Ray
