New Orleans
DW and I are considering a trip to the Big Easy to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary next Spring. Planning to take the new Big Sky and enjoy a week to ourselves (No pets and No daughters)! Doing research at Woodalls.com and we came across an RV park located very close by the name of Pontchartrain Landing. It has some fantastic (read expensive, but it is our 25th!) sites on the water that have hot tubs, patios, and other amenities on each site. Curious as to whether any MOCers have experience here or recommendations of other up-scale RV resorts in the area.

We stayed there last December and it was very nice. A little ways from French Quarter, but is newly developed. Happy anniversary. You will be right on the water. They have a bar, food, music and fun. Use your PA discount.

Yep, to the PA discount, and if you do not have PA, get it, you will more than make up the subscription fee just at Pontchartrain!
They have a shuttle to downtown, USE IT! $5.00 a person I think when we were there November 2012. Best 5 you will spend the entire stay!
Pretty campground, nicely kept, sorta a easy in and out situation. 10 can be a bit rough (bouncy, etc.) so just take it "easy" going in. (Yeap, I know, horrible play on words. )
(And, yes, I blogged about New Orleans, here is the night time version, there are several other posts about our day visit.

Enjoy! Oh, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!!!!

We are leaving Tuesday for trip clear across Southern U.S. and plan to stay at Ponchatrain. Like you, have never been to New Orleans in an RV (several times on business years ago). I will post in this section our experience.

Stayed there - one of the best in the area. Would recommend it. As Carol mentioned the shuttle is good for getting in and out of downtown. Highlight of New Orleans (for me )was the D-Day Museum. Make sure you have the correct address in your GPS. I dropped one digit and ended up pulling the rig through the 9th ward area that was flooded out. Not a good thing to do!

The site we are looking at is one of the two Presidential sites, which unfortunately are not eligible for Passport America. Good idea though.

I made reservations today - must pay full amount in advance, no refunds. However, they offer an insurance policy ($22) which guarantees full refund if have to cancel for any reason. I bought the insurance given that we are pulling clear across the country with the potential for unexpected events.

Sounds pretty nice, I'd go for it as you only live once and can't take it with you.....

Bingo we stayed there last year and enjoyed it. Very nice campground. We were there in April during the French Quarter Festival. We had a great time. Took the campground shuttle downtown. At that time the shuttle stopped return trips at 8PM. However, they recommended a cab company if you wanted to stay downtown past their last shuttle run. It was not expensive to get back to the campground.
