We have a Honda 2000 Companion. When we bought it we planned on buying a second, but so far we have never needed another one.
We just spent 17 days in Quartzsite with no problems. The only thing we do not run is air.

I have a 3300 watt Gen made by Boliy. I have had some problems with it, but mostly Elevation at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon 8300 ft. It needed different jets. I then could get it to run the trailer a couple of times the power went out. I found out it was not the Generator but the 50 amp Protable Surge Protector was at fault. It ran the trailer during a power outage for an hour and a half with no problem. I have replaced the Surge Protector now. So I am happy with the generator again it weighs 123lbs. electric start and remote.

I'm generator poor!!!!!!!!! A Generac 16 KVA sitting outside awaiting the next hurricane and a Generac 7550 EXL sitting in the shed waiting on me to sell it or give it to our daughter or son. Reason, no power for 3 weeks after Ivan and 2 weeks after Dennis. Never again I said. Now we have the Monty and could care less how long the power is out as we will be well north and west of it all.

I use a 7500 KW Generac mounted on the truck ahead of the 5th wheel hitch. It is quiet enough, (72db)and will run both Air Conditioners while the Microwave, etc. It is probably mo0re than needed for the RV but I also use it for auxiliary power tools on the ranch so it is a "use all".
To use it for the RV I merely have a 50 amp cord from the Marine plug on the RV rear that runs along the belly of the montana, along a frame, to the front hitch with length to reach the generator. To use it, I plug in the rear recepticle, just as I would shore power, then plug the front end to the generator, switch on the fuel valve, turn the key ignition and the generator starts.

Thanks Ozz. This MOC site has a HIGH standards bar! :-) Fired up the Yamaha EF6300iSDE for the first time last night That big beast is quite!!! Turned on the A/C, Microwave, fireplace and a few lights and it looked at me like .. is that all you got? lol So far very impressed. The cover and Remote start are still on there way from UPS. Looking forward to dry camping with it. Now i just need an inverter, 4 Lifeline batt., solar panels.... and .. and ... and... and... and..

This is what i am working on now. What i want to do is put it in the storage bay on a pullout tray. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...age-trays/9273 bolt it down with ubolts to the tray and keep it in the trailer. The second will be using a pulley/hoist system in the garage to get it in and out. Once it is in on a trip it is not going anywhere. (thats the plan anyway)

Does anybody use the Boliy 3600? I understand that it is as quite as the Honda 2000i and only weighs 70 lbs.

We boondock a pretty fair amount.
Our 2000i Honda supplies our AGM batteries with power when the sun isn't shining on our solar panels. Most of the time, we like to use the solar because solar doesn't make noise to bother the neighbors and doesn't burn fossil fuels.
When there is the occasion where we needed two Hondas to run the air conditioner, we headed north to a cooler climate.

Wow, that's quite a setup. I wouldn't be able to put my little Honda 2000i clear up there; bicycle yes. How do 90 degree turns clear the truck cab?

Does anyone use the house batteries to start their generator? Seems a shame to buy yet another battery to put in the generator when we have 4 others sitting close by!

Probably would work, but I would still get a starting battery, I would not want to use the deep cycles for the high output required for starting the generator. That said, I don't know what the amp draw is on your generator, and don't know if you have a hybrid battery, or straight deep cycle. Those Optima batteries are all Hybrid, not a pure deep cycle.
