Shattered Back Window
Went out to the trailer this morning and my big rear window is cracked in thousands of pieces and is slightly bowed out.
Having a local window glass guy coming out next Friday, which is the soonest, to look at it.
Anybody else have to deal with this? Sure glad we weren't out camping.

A little update. I went to put packing tape on the window outside which was ready to fall out. When I went inside I discovered it was only the outside glass that was shattered.
There was some moisture in between the 2 pieces of glass for awhile now and I'm wondering if the hot sun caused it to crack due to the moisture.

Any possibility it could have been a BB or pellet that didn’t penetrate to the inner glass? Or rock or other object thrown by a mower?

That is highly unlikely as the window faces to the back of the yard and is protected from the street and there is no grass in that area.
Strange happenings.

Has anyone been able to buy our so called double pane windows from a glass place?

I went to pick up my Montana at Camping World after some work and noticed my rear window shattered on the inside. One of the awning windows. It is the inside glass of a dual pane window, the outside looks fine so it wasn’t hit with or by anything and the screen is completely intact on the inside so it wasn’t hit on the inside. I believe they are making good but in fairness to them and also concerning, I have no idea how that happened.

Most of the time when this happens, it is caused by impurities in the glass when it is made, referred to as “inclusions”. It’s usually a tiny speck of iron that begins to rust, expanding in the process, until it creates too much pressure in the glass & eventually it shatters. The inclusions are usually too small for you to notice at a casual glance. It happens more often with lower quality glass & as we all know, the RV manufacturers don’t buy the best quality components, just the cheapest ones that will get the job done.

I had 4 windows shot out by vandals on My 2014 3402 rl Montana. Replacements came from Trekwood.com. They were replaced frames and all. Took a while to get them. I covered the openings with heavy mil plastic and taped with heavy duty white wide Gorilla tape. White reflects the heat and I also covered the entire openings layering like blinds. I was able to use the fifth wheel while waiting for the replacements. They were single pane windows but you might check if they also provide doubles.
I searched for glass company that could replace just the glass but was advised to replace the frame and all. After $1000 deductible insurance covered it.

Windows for campers are incredibly expensive, especially dual pane. I would imagine this would be covered by your insurance, so I would just let a dealer take care of it. If it isn't covered, I've found replacements on Ebay to be the best way to find a replacement. I haven't had to replace one as large as the rear window, however, but the smaller windows I have purchased (under three feet) have been direct replacement and about a third the cost of one ordered through a dealer or manufacturer.

My bro-inlaw went through this last year. Only his was self inflicted. After me repeatedly telling him not to put his front landing gear down on tall blocks, he did it once too often and it finally caught up to him.
He keeps their 5er backed right up to their house to make room in the driveway. Literally inches from their garage door. He goes in a hurry to hook up and isn't aligned perfectly with the hitch and trailer pin. As I told him at least a dozen times, he knocks the 5er off the blocks and down on his brand new truck the camper falls. It also went backwards about a foot breaking his rear glass out of the 5er and wiping out his garage door at the same time. He got his truck, the 5er and his house all in one 10 second span.
The damage to his truck bed rails and inside the bed was extensive. Replacement garage door and back glass for his 5er wasn't much fun either.
He ordered new back glass from the dealer and waited 6 weeks on it. I told him to call the local glass shop but as usual, he didn't listen.

Hi Bob. I wish that it would fit, but unfortunately it is the wrong window. The one I need from Trekwood is $1600.00 plus shipping.
I am taking the whole window to a glass place on Monday. They said it would take 2 weeks. I didn't ask what the price would be, but I'm sure it won't be cheap, however it needs to be done as the heavy rains are starting now on Vancouver Island. I'm just happy that I found a place to get it done.

Lenny-- We had a broken side window on our Monte on the way back from the Fall Rally last year and yes it was only a single pane window but one of our local glass shops replaced it for less than half of what the dealer or Trekwood wanted. Both said they had to order the whole window, frame and all but the glass company said nope and replaced the glass only. It did take a couple of weeks to get the glass in since it had to be matched to the tinting of the glass and also all the windows are safety glass and that is why you had all of the cracking. If you haven't talked to a local glass company, give them a try and see if they will replace just the glass. With the double pane windows they may not but it's sure worth a try.

Rondo. I did take out the whole window and took it to a glass place last week. It is going to cost approximately $550 which is a far cry what it would cost from Trekwood. They have ordered the piece of glass and will assemble it when they receive it. So in a couple of weeks I will be reinstalling the window. I'll post what the final cost will be.

Same here ,took my rear window out with a weed eater, it threw a small rock right thru it. Mine too was only a single pane, but was replaced by a local glass shop, don't remember how much it was , I only have $50 deductible on comprehensive, so it was more just an in-connivence getting it to the shop to be replaced. Seemed like a week or so, to get it, and was no big deal them replacing it . It matched the tinting of the other windows .

I had to replace the outside piece of the double pane. A new piece of glass was cut and tempered and then the window was put back together. So I have a double paned window again.
