Heading South in Jan.
Heading south to Florida in Jan from Detroit. Looking to put on about 500/600 miles first day. Where is good place to stop for the night? Camp grounds open? Been told Lexington is a good target.

The Horse Park in Lexington is a good place to stop. Easy access off I-75. Reasonable fee.

Best already have a reservation. Don't even think about state parks - they book out a year in advance. Plus, bring a few bags of that northern green. We love our snowbirds, but wish the crowd would thin out a bit so that us Florida residents can get a camp site in the winter.

Heading south in December.
We are traveling to Florida from NJ the end of December. We have reservations in West Palm Beach.
Trying to lay out a plan driving 300 to 400 miles a day and lay over for the night.Heard Super Walmart’s are safe layovers one night but made some calls and hearing not all allow it anymore. They say each different is different.Company leaves it up to each store manager to make the decision yes or no.
Apparently some people have been taking advantage and staying weeks at a time and leaving a mess behind. Its a shame a few always ruin things for everyone else.
So trying to look ahead and get an idea of our options.

Check in the store when you get there.
City ordinances are stopping a lot of overnight staying.
December is a very busy month at Walmart that could be a problem.

There is a campground in Walterboro called Green Acres that is easy on and off. There is a Cracker Barrel there also.

Yes I have been reading up on Walmart’s overnight stops.Apparently a lot of people camp out for days or weeks plus some are slobs and leave a mess behind. Its a shame because they ruin it for everyone.
Walmart’s policy is they leave it to the manager of each store to make the call.So yes I will check with store manager first.
Thanks.

I second the Kentucky Horse Park, north of the city, just off I-75. A really nice park and worth a visit.

Casinos also allow overnight staying. Check them out. If you get the Allstays app, it will tell you which Walmarts are okay to stay at. They also list casinos and others overnight places to stay. I use it for all of our RV travels.
