Going to the sun road
We are going to Glacier in September, wondering if it is possible to take our F350 Dually on the Going to the sun road or would we be better off renting a car for the day. If renting is better where is a good place to rent. We will be staying in West Glacier. TIA

Crew Cab, long bed, duallys are permitted on the Going to Sun Road. We have been up in one several times. It can be tight if another one is coming at you on some of the corners, but nothing too scary. Of course parking is a challenge but as a dually owner, you should be used to that.

It can be done but it will tight with oncoming traffic at times, in certain places. And, if the other guy is a dually.

While I don't own a dually, we rode over the Going to the Sun Road in the Red Roadster Tour. Top down, blankets, warm sun, great photo opportunities! We recommend the Red Roadster tour!

We live just a hour and 15 minutes south and go up at least 2 times a season I take my duelly most of the time. It’s challenging when it’s peak tourist season but well worth the trip. Just drive slow and enjoy the views. Parking along the way can be challenging but we have found going up on non weekend or holiday periods is easier. Have fun and enjoy Montana has lots to offer. I might also suggest going through the National Bison Range free and worth the trip without your 5’er.

It can be done but fold your mirrors in to avoid close encounters. Technically it's posted at maximum 21 feet (long bed crew cab is about 23 feet), but I haven't seen it enforced. Have fun.

Plus, make sure you go to the train station on the east side. Stand on the platform and look down the tracks. You can see history. Also the lodge just west of the station. There is a nice rv park on the east side, outside of the park is a good away from the crowd kind of place. A nice drive is around the south end of the park.

We missed that trip a few years ago when we were there at the beginning of June as it was still closed with an 80' Snow Drift blocking the road. We need to go back so we can do it.

As mentioned, sections going up to Logan Pass are narrow. Lots of traffic so slow pace allows to manage GBP red buses and other large vehicles. We chose to go late in day and avoid morning rush. Such a beautiful view and drive! Enjoy!

While you can drive it, I found it a lot more relaxing and fun to let someone else (red bus) drive and I gazed at the scenery.

Like others have said take the red bus. I've driven it twice with a 2500. Very drive able but you miss a lot of beautiful scenery.

I could afford a legacy package and full paint if I had a nickel everytime DW says Look at that and I respond with "Can't I am driving"
