Nice! It looks like the Kodiak hubs come with races in them; did you knock them out and replace them with the ones from Rock Auto?

Looks great Mark. Now, time for a test ride. You do need to break those pads in with a few slow stops before they work the best.
Don't forget to turn your truck's controller down to about 6 and to electric over hydraulic. If not, that billowy blue cloud behind you wont be the sky and the double black streaks on the road aren't left over from a local night drag race.

Yes, I did replace the races too. Kodiak and Titan use the exact same hubs and rotors and bearings.

Mark, thank you for twisting the arm just a little bit more I really want to do this, but will have to wait a little longer as we just found cancer in our blue heeler and she had surgery yesterday to try and get it. BUT, it will be done. Thanks for the write up as it not only makes me want to do it, let's me know I can do it.

I get it. I lost my dog of 16-1/2 yrs last July. Miss her terribly, wishing a good outcome for her.
Happy to provide the nudge! It’s really not that difficult, and a good plan helps. Good luck with your dog.

How hard was it to replace the races?

Not hard at all, you just knock them out with a 3lb hammer and a brass drift. I put the new ones in the freezer overnight to shrink em up a bit, then drove them right in.
Side note: make sure your dift punch is longer tan the hub is deep. Then when it slips off the race you don’t smash your thumb.LOL That’s all I’m gonna say about that..

Test drive complete. I have to say the difference is remarkable. I used to run my brake controller at 9.5 now it’s at 6.5 and if I really clamp on it they will slide right towards the end. If it’s raining I’ll have to turn it down to 5 or so. Only went 5-6 miles but the driving is going to be a MUCH less worrisome task.
Well worth the money and work.

Ok, I'm confused now. I just got off the phone with etrailer. I wanted to order the Kodiak 13" kit and upgrade to 9/16" studs. I know this takes a larger outer bearing, but I was told they could not tell me the proper bearings to order unless I pulled one of my wheels apart and got a number off the existing bearings and/or took a measurement with calipers. I told her I had Dexter 7000 lb axles and didn't that tell them what size spindles I had. She said no, that you could never tell which spindles they would put on the axle.
I seems odd, since you can go to their page for that hub and it tells you which bearing it takes, but has me second guessing now.

I don't want to buy my bearings from them anyway since they don't carry Timken, but I need to know what size to order.
I'm going to call again tomorrow and talk to a different person, but now thinking different vendor.
Thoughts?

I sent Bill at Stopyourtrailer.com a picture of the tags on my axles. He verified through Dexter exactly what I had. He is very knowledgeable and helpful, I called him several times. He sells both Titan and Kodiak but I believe he sells mostly the Titan EHB actuator. The Kodiak is slightly more money because they don’t give him as big of a discount. I took peace of mind in Bills’ knowledge and help.

Side note, any of you rear kitchen folks or if you have plates or such like it in forward facing cabinets some positive caninet door latches might be a good idea.

Here is my order from Rock auto for the bearings and races.
The numbers should cross reference.
TIMKEN 25580 Inner bearing
TIMKEN 02420. Outer race
TIMKEN 02475 Outer bearing
TIMKEN 25520. Inner Race

Those are the exact numbers I was ready to pull the trigger on; I got them off the etrailer web page. Then they surprised me by saying "were not sure, go pull a hub".

Those are the same numbers on the China bearings that came with my setup. The outer bearings are different than the ones on your trailer now. I’m not sure what she wanted you to look at? Did she want you to measure the spindle? I believe it’s 1-1/4” on the outer bearing.

Get a number off the existing bearings and measure the spindle.

I’ll go look at my old ones in the morning. My cost was around 1600 for everything including the actuator. I couldn’t come up with a better price so just went with Bill.

I've been working with Bill today; he is working up a quote for me with the Hydrastar and Kokiak hubs. I've just been trying to gather as much info as possible.
Did he ship promptly? Everything arrive ok?

Probably not necessary; I don't think e-trailer wanted to listen to me when I told them what axle I had.
Did you get the 9/16 studs?
