Montana Lengths
Looking at the Keystone website the shortest "Montana" is 39'7", not including the High Country. Can that be? No shorter montanas? That puts them out of our consideration in the future.
What do you think?

Why? many campgrounds and even some state parks can accommodate a 40ft trailer

5th Wheel Lengths
Model 3000RE is 35'-6" and Model 3160RL is 35'-6". The rest are longer.

Yup, those are the only shorter ones. We did about 60,000 miles with our first forty footer and now we have another. Seldom an issue and never a real problem.

Ours, new this year, is the 3811 and it is 40'-9". So far really no problems. Just in some situations you need to take it slow, but you should do that anyway.

Our 3402RL is 39' if the park says they have a limit, but it's really 40+. Never really had an issue anywhere, but we don't attempt to state at old state parks that were built before RVs got so long.

We've towed from a 23' to our current 3400RL. The only difference I've found is that you have to take turns a little wider and takes longer to slow down. But the living space is really noticeable......

Of all the campers I have owned 32 feet with 3 slides seams about perfect for me. Even the High Countys are longer than that.

Ok - as a newbie, why choose the Montana over the High Country? The 3160 RL looks very much like the 305RL.

They both have advantages. The Montana is a nicer camper but heavier and harder to pull. The HC is a great camper to pull but not as good to full time in. They both have advantages and disadvantages. I chose like you to go with a unit that can be pulled with a 3/4 ton truck without going over the truck's limits and it's all I need. How nice does a country boy need a camper to be?

Q: - How nice does a country boy need a camper to be? A: - The DW or if doubt as the DW, repeat if necessary - Montana looks to be GVWR just under 2000lb more
Thx

The 3000 and the 3160 are stock only which means they aren't making them any longer. Perhaps they will come out with something similar but I did not see it on the website.

I have HC that is supposed to 36'. I was doing a pole building modification because I knew it wouldn't fit. From the front of the hitch to the rear ladder 39'. HC works for us as we prepare to be snowbirds in 10 months. We pull with Chevy 2500 HD duramax. If we went bigger I would want a bigger truck. I go the speed limit and it is still a beast but I am sure I will learn as time goes.

I guess if your going to buy a new pick-up it would be great if you could go drag a few 5ers to check performance - ya light that would happen

Chip-- You will not find any new units that Montana is making until the Hershey Show and also the Dealers Show that are both coming up over the next few weeks. We (those of us going to Goshen for the Fall Rally) will also get to see what the new designs of the new Montana's will look like during the week of the Rally at the Factory Tour. You'll have to wait to see what they come out with when they release all of this year's units.
Mike-- You will learn to work with the length and the unit. The actual length is not in the book or on the forms. The length is normally about 2 1/2' longer than reported and Montana measures it normally from the nose of the unit to the bumper of the unit!

I have found the longer the rig the easer it is to handle. Yes in some parks it can get tight. But the longer the distance between the pin and the center of the RV's wheels the easer it is to back into a spot. Just try backing up an 8 foot utility trailer. it goes every way but where you want it to go. JMHO

My challenge is getting use to the difference in reaction BH to 5er, multiplied by length. Need to head advice of utilizing big parking lot to practice

on the HCS the measurements go from center of kingpin to the rear of the camper they do not include the bumper our 353 shoe 37 foot in brochure but is actually 39. So when u build a 40 rv shed u have little room for error. Which ed I would of measured first:.
