Replacing the stereo with a car unit.
I just read an article in Trailer Life about replacing the stereo in a trailer with an automotive unit. Now why didn't I think of that? It solves three problems at once. It gets rid of that awful RCA sound system they have the nerve to install, It frees up all that space for better uses and it gives you a unit that runs on 12 volts!
I have already substituted a set of computer speakers, Altec Lansing with a subwoofer for the speakers that come with the stereo and because they are self powered they improve the sound a 1000% but the stereo's radio is lousy with no AM reception and poor FM reception. With an auto unit you get a fader control that you could use to fade from living room to bedroom if you want.
Have any of you done a swap like this? Where do you get the 12 volt power from in a Montana with the entertainment center at the bottom of the bedroom stairs? Can I get it from the water pump below? Also where do you put the auto antenna?
I can't wait to get started. Great Christmas project!
