How do others handle this situation ?
When I ordered my camper I told the dealer I didn't want the MORryde steps. I had visited the dealership a number of times to mess with those steps on units in their lot before ordering ours. Some days they felt light to lift, other days they didn't. Ok, so I wouldn't be lifting and lowering the steps a lot in one day. But still. I thought about those days when traveling and being at truck stops overnight. I knew with the old style steps it was just enough room while parked next to semi's for the night. MORryde sticks out and will definitely swing out further when opening. Those truckers park close to not hog room. I don't want to be that Rv person that ticks off my trucker friends. The rain is an issue I didn't want to deal with. First of all it's hard to dry off stairs outside while it's raining on you and the stairs. Then the mud. One more thing that crossed my mind was ANTS. Never been anywhere where there weren't any ANTS. Those little buggers can crawl and I don't want them inside. Sure I can spray the stairs but I'm one of those environmental freaks. Yes there is insecticide free stuff but I haven't found anything effective yet. The fold out steps have not been a problem for us yet. It doesn't matter the kind of steps. I can manage to trip on the best of them. I will just watch my step. No pun intended. The MORryde stairs are STURDY no doubt about that. You can run up and down them and feel very secure. They are fantastic, just not for us. We are too OCD about cleanliness.
