Winterizing question

Just finished winterizing and ran into one small issue. The "Freeze Guard Winterizing System" hose fitting has a check valve in it making it impossible to draw anti-freeze in; I don't think there is any way the water pump can provide enough suction to open this valve.

I'm wondering if there is a special fitting that depresses this valve to allow the pump to draw anti freeze in?

I got around it this time by using a transfer pump to pressurize the anti-freeze into the system.

Am I missing something?
