Southern Utah

I know there was a recent posting on this area but I am also planning a trip to Southern Utah this summer. I wanted to know if anyone could comment on some of the roads.
First, Route 9 across the southern boundry of Zion National Park. Is this the road with the tunnels that I would need an escort to get through?
Second, has anyone traveled across route 12 to route 24 up to route 70 bordering the northern boundry of the Grand Staircase-Escalante?
Third, has anyone pulled their Monty down to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon? It looks to me like this is down Alt route 89 to Jacob Lake then south on route 67 to the North Rim.

This is our first big trip so I need all the help I can get.
