Spring Checklist--spare tire
I hadn't checked the spare tire but have only pulled my trailer about 700 miles since I bought it in November. I just happened to be looking at something under the unit when I put my hand on the spare tire. It was about to fall off. So remember this spring when you are dewinterizing your unit to make sure that spare tire is tight.

While under the rig checking the tightness of the spare, it also would be a good time to check the air pressure in it.

Many of us have installed a web-type strap, to secure the tire as well. I suggest it.

Have a strap on mine so I never need to crawl under there, just been over and make sure it is still there. Also NEVER put your name on the spare.

I tried to check the air pressure and found the spare installed so the valve stem was blocked from my hands.

We lost our spare a year ago this past October. We now have it web-strapped to the holder as well as locked with a bike cable and padlock. It's a little unhandy if I have to crawl under and release it for use, but at least it will be there when I need it.

I just use the web-type strong ratcheting strap you can get at Wally-World, or an auto parts store.
Wrap it around the metal support brackets and get it tight.
I think it is good insurance.

Ozz,
Thanks, it's a great idea. It'll be done before our next trip.

I've also been told you should put a lock on it as sometimes, it could be pron to grow legs and walk away.....

We also do the web strap thing... and check the air pressure same as you do the rest of the tires. What good is a flat spare??? I never thought about putting my name on the spare but why is doing that a bad thing???

Do you really want someone to know where that large object that fell off your rig and caused the accident came from? Not me.

"Do you really want someone to know where that large object that fell off your rig and caused the accident came from? Not me."... I thought that was why it might be a bad idea..Also don't forget to replace that OEM rubber valve stem on the spare otherwise it will be flat most of the time.
