Oil cooler issues on my F450.
Recently I reluctantly got my F450 smog tested by request of Ca DMV. Two years old and had to have it smogged, guess it's Ca way of finding modifications? The truck passed of course but inspector noticed a leak around EGE valve.
Took truck into Ford for 34,987 mile service. What they found was "failed oil cooler" and with that a major list of replacement parts and extensive cleaning out of system. Of course it was cover by the 36k warranty. Nearly $4000.00 worth I was told, including components that were deemed damaged by the tech. I am and have been assured my extended coverage would have also covered this entire repair should it happen again.
My point here was no forewarning, no lights or poor instrument readings. No oil under the truck. I am not a mechanic and would not have ever known. I service the truck at 5000 Mile intervals, or if on extended trips I have it serviced. I find it's a cheap way to keep eye on things. Please guys, no "Ford hate posts"! I posted this because I read some articles about this problem reported by other owners. So FYI to my fellow 6.7 owners.

Thanks for the posting. NO hate here, our 6.7 is the best truck we have ever owned, and over the years we have had trucks from Chev and Dodge as well.

Thanks for the post, I prefer warning sounds etc., and have just had waste-gate control valve harness replaced under emissions warranty after hearing 15 seconds of buzzing after engine shut off. After doing a bit of research have found it is to be a common issue for 6.7 Fords. So far have really enjoyed driving this truck, best we have ever had. We are at 76K miles (22K per year) and only the recalls and this warranty issue has been our experience. All the big three trucks have some issues, so my thinking is that we are only passing through this life once, and we might as well ride in style.

Sorry to hear of your trouble Artemus, and thanks for posting. I am now on my second F450 (first one was a 2008) and I have had very good luck with them and the 2 F350s before that. Hope they get you fixed up soon. -Glenn

That is the first posting I’ve ever seen stating problems with the 6.7
It sounds like what I went through with my oil cooler overheating. I use a gauge that monitors coolant temp, oil temp, Transmission temp, rpm’s & much more. It’s an "EDGE" product (Insite CTS.) Mine don't program the engine it only monitors. There web site looks like it changed since I got mine but it shows something very similar to what I've got.
Right after I got it I was comparing the EOT to the ECT and the oil temperature gradually kept getting hotter when driving normal and not towing. Had I not had this I wouldn’t have known there was a problem until it was too late. It’s my understanding that if the oil cooler plugs up then it overheats the EGR cooler and will cause it to go out. Keep in mind that this is what happened on my 6.0. Your 6.7 may be different. The regular gauges didn’t indicate a problem nor were there any signs it was getting that warm.
The gauge plugs in under the dash and is very easy to hook up.

I want to clarify, it was fixed and I am back on the road. The problem I reported is nothing like the 6.0 motor issues. I just reporting I had the problem and it appears Ford is willing to fix it. I have complete confidence in the truck, but still glad I have extended warranty.
