Stuck in Alaska
With Covid came the Canadian border closure. Because we have a home in Alaska the Canadian Border agent would not let us travel through. We are fully self contained, do not need hotels or restaurants, RV parks can be totally phone check in, no face to face. We do need fuel stops and pretty much all are self serve again with no face to face contact. But we could not travel through. We had to winterize and store the rig which we did not want to do as we live in it year round. Really missing travel south this winter...hope things change this summer. Ok, I got that off my chest.

This is a problem we never thought about. Now you will haft to get back up there next spring or summer to get your camper, a hassle. I hope you enjoy your trip back.

Tom,
Do you also have a house in Eagle River? Not a bad place to be stuck.

As they say, When life throws lemons at you, make lemon-aid. Look for the positives in this new experience. There are always good things happening if you look for them and I'm sure you will find them.

Why not get to the coast and take the car/truck ferry to Seattle?

Agree with that. Stuck in Alaska? I can think of a lot worse places to hole up.

Not sure that Alaska is a very nice winter hole up state between cold and short daylight hours
We see hundreds if not thousands of RVs going south from Canada on I87 every year. Not so this year. The border closings get extended 1-2 months at a time and expect that to continue for a few more months, or until the COVID numbers come back down.

Seasonal Canadians in our FL park not here. Place feels empty without them. A few have flown in because they keep their rigs here.

It should be a two way street. We are in Florida and there are a lot of Canadians. So, we asked how they got here with the borders closed. They hire a transporter to bring the RV across the border. Then they fly across the border, pick up their RV and head south. As a US citizen, you shouldn’t have a issue getting back into the states. By this summer, hopefully it is over. Another side note, the Canadians are getting their vaccines first because the governor said anyone over 65 gets the vaccine regardless of where they are from.

Maybe NOT stuck
My wife and I work camp in Florida and there was a lot of talk about no Canadians being down here this year, well guess what...... they're here. What they are doing is hiring a professional transporter to take it through the checkpoint and when they are on the other side, they meet up and take over the drive. Hope this gives you an idea. Be safe.

It’s still happening. They certainly haven’t stopped it everywhere.

Everything I am hearing tells me the border will not reopen until at least early fall, and very likely not even this year. Even then I hope we will be using health passports to prove we are vaccinated with jail time for those buying counterfeit passports (already for sale at $3 each) My plan is to leave May 2023 and I am not sure we will be able to based on the vaccination rates so far. It will eventually end, just don't know when.

So sorry that they would not let you through. I had heard many stories that as long as you travel A-B, you could use the "Canadian corridor" to get home. So Sorry to hear your plight.
As a Canadian who cancelled all winter plans in the Southern U.S. due to Covid, I am ashamed at the Canadian's who "scammed the system" having their trailers brought over and then flew in to pick up the trailers and continue on. I could have done this as well, but if not legally wrong, it is certainly morally wrong and a selfish act. This is not how two great countries and citizens should treat each other. I truly believe there are more Canadians who think (and act) like me than the other ones. Please don't paint us all with the same brush. Stay safe!

I appreciate you attitude. Rules and regulations are for all, not for a selected few. We have many Quebecois pass through our area that have obeyed your rulings, based on not seeing their license plates. The border will eventually reopen and you in the north country will again enjoy our south's winter weather.

Still in the Philippines, Got here September of 2019 and feel safer here wearing a mask and face shield with 5500 cases which is about the death rate in USA.
Face Mask and Shield is mandatory here. They give out rewards to you $100.00 and or 30 days in jail or 14 days isolation, and as a visitor a trip back to the USA with restriction on your return if ever allowed again.

What a great idea to transport the rig then fly over. It's too bad that government interference is causing traveling costs to go up. Especially for those caught in situations beyond their control.

I think if you are being safe, wearing your mask, social distancing, just trying to be as safe as possible RVing is about as good as you can do. I’m never worried about our Canadian friends. They have done a lot better than we have in controlling this virus.

This threat has been closed. It has gotten way off track with many negative derogatory comments and personal attacks. Several posts have been removed.
