Tire Protection and Cover Advice
My 1st set of boat trailer tires (GT Marathons made in New Zealand) lasted ~6 years b4 showing the need to replace. New Marathons made in China only 4 years. New tires are Maxxis. None were ever covered and exposed to sunlight most all the time but sometimes sprayed with 303 Aerospace Protectant.
Now for my question. Our new 5r has Sailun tires that are much more expensive than the C-rated tires on the boat trailer. What covers do folks recommend? I see many, many brands on the web. Are some better? Also does anyone used some sort of UV inhibitor on their tires? I think the manual says to not do it. But something like http://www.sunblockfortires.com/ might prolong UV damage.

Never have used anything on any brand tire we have had on our 6 RV's or 4 trucks.
We now have G614s on this 13 3402 they are wearing well and are inspected by a professional every year.

In the past I have used the tire covers that cover the whole wheel that are sold by Camping Would. Pain in the butt to put on and remove. Now with my 3583RL the slides cover the tires for the most part. I live in AZ so the sun can be a problem but when the rig is at home it is in a covered storage barn beside my house. So sun on the tires is not a factor. I for one have them inspected each year and replace them every 4 years no matter what. Yes 4 instead of 5 years just because they are not in the sun they are subject to temps over 100 for weeks at a time.

How do you like them? I haven't actually seen them other than in pictures and the reviews I have read. Does the size I linked properly fit the standard Sailun tires on the Montana?

That is the size that I bought for 235x80-16 Sailuns. Fit snug so I don’t tie them.

Would you recommend the next size up if they are too snug? Do they go to the ground?

I have never used tire covers but do keep the trailer in covered storage. The only time the tires get direct sunlight is rolling down the road. Once camping with the slides out they are back in the shade.

I use Adco tire covers. They seem to remain flexible where other mfgrs have hardened and started cracking in a couple years.
I use them when we are in one place for more than a few days and when the rig is stored as it is outside.
The white covers keep the tires much cooler which I checked when I first started using them.
I 'm not sure they will neccessarily extend the tires usefull life past 5 yrs but I figure why degrade them sooner. In the sun they do get hot but it's not just the heat but the UV.

I bought ours on Amazon 7 years ago and may need to replace them in a year or two, but for sure got my money out of them.

I have never used them and have never had any cracks in the side wall.

I get them at CW when they have BOGO sale. Temps are taken and air adjusted a day prior to departure as covers are removed. Uncovered tires can vary up to 10 degrees if one is in the direct sun and the other in the shade.

You really don’t need tire covers. Tires should be replaced every 5 years regardless of wear. Goodyear stores won’t even fix a flat at 6 years.

Down at the Goodyear store it’s 6 years and they make the tires. I ask my friend the manager at our Goodyear store if I should replace the tires on my motor home. They had 5000 miles on them, had been stored in an enclosed garage, out of sun light and looked NEW. His answer yes get them off of your camper. They have been going down hill since they were new and if you have a flat Goodyear stores aren’t allowed to fix them.

Agree with Lynwood. A waste of money.

I'll be getting tire covers right after I get one of those $199 hitch pin covers!
