You will get both sides of the answer here. My input is they keep stuff off the top of the slideout, they provide a shade that allows the roof of the slideout to remain cooler, they shade the top seal so its life is greatly extended, and they can, given enough wind, cause some noise if the wind direction is from the right direction. Would I be without them...no. john
