Ford 6.7 low oil pressure warning
Ford 6.7 diesel owners.....
Anyone have LOW OIL PRESSURE warnings popping up all the time? I have a 2016 with 7800 miles. Last night I started the truck and backed out of my garage. All of a sudden I heard warning chimes and the display window said low oil pressure. I shut it off immediately, tried to restart the engine but it was dead. After a two minute wait it started, no warning chimes but check engine light is still on. Oil level is good, no leaks.
Research on the net shows lots of 6.7 owners have this issue. Just wondering if anyone on the MOC is having issues and what is/was done.
Thanks,
KT

I bought my 2012 used with only 4,392 miles and 2 years old. Have had it 3 1/2 years and put 65,000 miles on it and never had that issue with it.

I contacted my local Ford dealer and told him what happened. He strongly suggested to NOT drive it to the garage. If there really was an oil starvation issue the engine could suffer major damage and a tow is much cheaper than an engine. He told me to call Ford Roadside Service, that they would probably arrange to tow the vehicle in. I called and they scheduled a tow for tomorrow at no cost to me. The Ford garage will take it in Friday and have a look.
One of the strange things is that Ford diesel trucks have NO oil pressure gauges in the insturment panel. The gas engine does, but not the diesel.

I always carry a OBD code reader with me. If you had one you could plug it in and the reader would tell you what the problem is. These are inexpensive and a valuable diagnostic tool. It has saved me while towing a couple of times.

I have a 2013 ram and i can scroll to my oil pressure, water temp, oil temp and transmission temp. My oil pressure is just about always at 49 psi. I have the cheapest ram 'st' model you can get so it's not a matter of having to upgrade to get all this info.So much for Ford having a better idea and i really like Fords.

We have just turned 10,000 miles and not seen a warning light yet. Please let us know what your Dealer finds.

I have a 2013 F250 and had a similar issue. We would intermittently get numerous warnings on the message center (low oil pressure, tpms warning, low voltage, plus numerous others). It would happen when setting or releasing the parking brake (sometimes) or when shifting from park to reverse or drive or the other way. It would cause the HVAC to be dead, and the truck would not restart.
It was towed to the Savannah, Ga. Ford truck center 4 times. The first time, it was dead when coming off the flat bed, but the tech reseated all the computer connections and it restarted. A few weeks later, same issues, but it restarted after being unloaded. Each subsisquent time, same thing.
The dealer finally got Ford tech involved. The issue was the dashboard losing communication with the computers. It was resolved by bypassing one wire (I don’t know which one) at the connectors. 70,000 miles later, no issues.
The service manager called me a couple of months after the work and told me an Ambulance on an F450 chassis had come in with the same issue, and they went right for the bypassing.
For info, the truck was originally bought in Florida (humidity)and i seemed to have the issues when the humidity in Savannah was higher than normal.
Hope this helps.

Sounds as if it is either a bad connection in a coupling or the oil pressure sending unit is having a problem. Should be an easy fix.

I agree. It’s most likely a minor problem but do you wont to gamble an engine on it. I like taking risk but not this one.

Well, the Ford garage called and guess what.......they couldn't find anything. Oil level is good, pressure is good, etc. The service writer said it might have been "water incursion" 😨. I asked "there's water in the oil?" No, it may have been water got into a connnection plug to one of the modules. They dried out the connectors and cleared the code so the check engine light is out. But if it happens again call right away.
Pretty much what I expected. I think I'll get a code reader so I can clear it myself, and install a real oil pressure gauge.

Glad there was no real problem. You can get gages that are displayed on your smartphone, OBD LINK and OBD FUSION are 2. There are many others. They display the gages you choose and can flip from page to page. They can read and display error codes and if you choose 1/8, 1000 feet and 1/4 mile performance times and speed. Cost is from zero to about $10. You will need an OSB plug in unit to go with them. The cost there is from a few bucks to 35 to $40. They broadcast in Bluetooth and WIFI. You can use them when you wish. Mine does not give oil pressure. Some might now. Even if they don’t show oil pressure they are still worth the money. They are as accurate as any gages made as all the information is coming from your vehicle.

Thanks for that info. Been looking into things like that. Also looking at Glow Shift Gauges for an oil pressure gauge to mount on the dash.

Good to hear there was no problem. I know you'll worry, but these things have a LOT of connectors that can get loose.

Hi
Make sure the code reader you purchase will read the Ford Diesel trucks. Not all of them will.
