Power Cord Storage

After almost a season in our 3121, I'm trying to get better organized. One difference between our new trailer and our previous TT, is the difference in the power cord, 30A versus 50A. Everyone that has wrestled with the heavier and stiffer cord has gone through similar battles. So far I have just coiled it up as best as I could and threw it in the bed of the truck. I'm sure adding an electric power cord reel is the ideal option, but looking for something a little less complex. I came across this (see link) and wondered if anyone out there has used this. And also would like to hear how others are storing their power cords.

I keep mine in a plastic tote with a lid, much easier to wash if i store it wet and dirty until we get home

I coil mine up in a 5 gallon Lowes bucket. The 50amp cord is a beast, but the bucket is cheap, and works like a charm!

I roll mine up and set it on top of the bins in the basement. It is the first thing I hook up on arrival and the last to detach when leaving.Would be concerned it would be stolen laying in an unsecured location.

The only time it is difficult to manage is when we are in cold weather. I was considering using a water hose coil bucket, but am doing OK with it for now. Power reel would be nice to help get it clean as it winds up though.

We bought the MorRyde manual cord reel and I would NEVER go without one again!! I put a cloth around the cord as I reel it in to keep it clean. Uses a very small footprint and makes for easier/cleaner storage.

We do the exact same thing. Hubby mounted it into one of the rear side hatch compartments. Bag might be nice to store the extension cord and the pigtail convertor. Our surge protector is mounted inside the camper.

I have a tote with a lid that I cut a notch out in each end at the top so the power cord can come out and you can snap the lid back on. I keep all the adapters in there and just coil up the cord and put it in the basement.

Just keep it in a plastic tub in the garage.

Because we are full time, and have quite a bit of stuff in the basement, I don't have the luxury (read space) to have totes or reels or tubs to store the power cable. I use a heavy Velcro strap with a handle to wrap around the cord, then add a couple more Velcro straps to keep it all together and just stand up the coil behind the slam door of the storage pass through. I have my 50 amp extension cord behind that too. The first thing to come out when we stop and the last thing back in when we pack up. And yes, when it's cold, it's a bear to coil up.

x 2 CARWIN. I mounted mine in the basement and can roll it in with 1 hand and clean it with a cloth in the other hand. Takes up less room than the tote or bucket that I previously used and I don't have to lift all the weight. I stretch the cord out fairly straight before retracting

I to have the manual Mor-Ryde reel and it doesn't take up much more space than if I stood it up in the basement. The manual rolls the cord up in about 10 seconds. Even in cold conditions the reel does a great job of rolling up the cord.I have a Mor-Ryde tray and the reel is mounted in the tray. If you are tired of tackling the cord then this is the way to go.

We carry the OEM cord and a 25' extension plus 50' of 30 amp cord used for a quick hookup for overnight. They are just rolled and left on the floor of the basement. They can also be stored standing up against the basement wall tooI really like the roll up reels but they are huge space grabbers and, being immovable, limit access to other items. I don't like the idea of leaving them in the TV bed as some have been known to grow legs and wander off.

Our cord with EMS attached is stored on top of the totes that hold our water parts next to the ones that hold our sewer hose for quick connect which is on top of the one that holds the one for our 25' extension and other electrical cords. All stored in a small side compartment above the sewer outlet. We also full time and I don't have the space to waste on a reel.

Thanks to all that have responded. I had looked at and like the reel, and it may not take up a lot of space. But as Dave W stated, you can't move it if it's attached to the basement floor and will block part of your basement access. Agree that I have to get it out of the truck bed. I had thought about mounting the reel to a piece of plywood slightly larger than the reel footprint and when ready to roll it up, attach it to the picnic table with a couple of quick clamps and then slide it into the basement when reeled up. It wouldn't be permanently mounted and can be moved aside for basement access. I could get my wife to load/unload it into the basement for me.

I mounted my reel in the compartment up front where the generator would be, since I don't have a generator this location works great. Mounted it as far left as I could and still have clearance. I still have plenty of storage space in the compartment.

Nuthin' fancy here. Just a plastic hose holder from HD about $6. Easy Peasy.
