2020 3790rd basement mods
What’s up everyone. I just bought a 2020 3790rd. We are pretty fired up to use it and I’m sure I’ll be on this forum a lot.
I do have a question. For everyone with the rear basement with the slide out what modifications have you done to make life easier? I have a few ideas but some pictures of your mods would be cool to see.

Made a boat lift for our kayaks so that I can still use the slide out tray without the kayaks getting in the way.

Kayak length? Storage tray length?

The way you're storing your kayaks is fantastic! Thanks for sharing your pics. Can you tell me how long / what model your kayaks are? Look like Pelicans?
We are looking into the 3790 because we want to take kayaks and there are so few other options available.
Thanks!

Yes ours are Pelican "Sentinel" and I believe they are just shy of 10'. I fashioned the boat lift by putting 4 eye bolts through the aluminum framing, 2 in front about 2 feet from the front and 2 in the back about 2 feet in. I spaced them a little wider than the kayaks but not too much. I then used ratchet straps, hooking the ends into the eye bolts, and making sure I had good access to the ratchet handles. Once you have the kayaks slid onto the ratchet straps, tighten the front one up to raise the front of the kayaks so that they start to fit into the front cubby space then tighten the back to raise the back end up so that you can position the kayaks so that the back end is far enough in to close the door. Tighten until the kayaks are snug against the roof of the storage space. You'll need to play with the sequence to tweak it to what works best for you. If you have any questions let me know.

Thank you so much for replying! Your ratchet system looks like a perfect solution - still leaving the tray to hold other things. One of our kayaks is 10 1/2 feet long...do you think there is room to squeeze another 6 inches into the cargo area? If not we'll have to trade that kayak off and get another ten footer!

Can't get you pictures right now since the rig is in storage. I added fishing pole holders to the left side wall inside the garage and I hang a light weight 5 foot step ladder on the left side wall using two hooks screwed into the aluminum studs. I've been gathering the pieces needed to put a cage around the back 1/3 or so of the slide tray to prevent things from falling off inside the garage. I actually got the idea from another member on the forum here.
I have also wired a couple of outlets inside the garage that I intend to put on a second circuit supplied with a 30 amp power totally separate from the 50 amp. That circuit will also power the 3rd AC when I get it installed next year independent of the existing trailer's 50 amp power. The additional outlets will be used to power an electric heater and a dehydrator for deer jerky during hunting season in northern West Viriginia. I really don't understand why they didn't put at least on outlet in the garage. There's one in the basement.

Thanks for the reply’s.
This weekend I plan on building some kind of rack or holder to stack camp chairs and tables vertically. Also I’m thinking about running some 1x4s along the inside of the outer storage of the basement to hang stuff. We’ll see.
Thanks again.

So I did some mods today. I’m not sure how I like it but it’s a start. I put in a 1x6 on one side and put in some hooks.

Pkbirdog, I notice you have some X chocks hanging there. We have a 3790 on order and it will be the first time with 6 point landing gear... do you find you still use the X chocks even with the 6 point landing gear? Does it add noticeably to the stability?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

We actually haven’t camped yet. We kept them from our last trailer. I can tell you this Montana is way more stable than our old Rockwood travel trailer just from loading it up.

We have a 3741FK, and the 6 point landing is very solid.
I really only use the X-Chocks for piece of mind for not rolling. The one issue that I've found with them is that if you tighten them too much, then when you hook up, they get even tighter. Even if the unit doesn't roll back, it get's lifted some, and that changes the angles on the axles, and they can be quite difficult to get off. Otherwise, I like them...

Cool idea. Did you remove the paneling between the outside cabinets and the slide area "garage"? Ours has paneling where you are showing bare aluminum framing.

There is no paneling on my trailer. It’s all open in the basement.

Remember to be cautious about overloading the rear compartment which is easy to do on this model. Overloading the rear can cause you to not have enough pin weight causing an unsafe condition known as "wagging the tail". When we got our 3791RD we got in a hurry switching our "stuff" and caused ours to have this problem but only had to drive 10 miles to park it for a few days. BTW I am also a retired trucker after 20 years and 3,000,000 miles logged so have some experience with weight distribution.

Pkbirdog, ours is s 2019. I wonder if that was a change for 2020?

I think it must have been... BTW, the 2021 models have no paneling either.

I also had XChocks from our TT before getting the Monte. Loved them on the Travel Trailer, didn't need them on the Monte with 6 point leveling, so I gave them away to a family member.

Panels in the Garage
It was probably a good idea to get rid of the panels beside the slide out in a 3790/91RD. I have a 2018. They constantly fall off since they are only put on with staples shot into a thin metal strip. How about the side storage? Does it still have a panel to keep everything from falling into the Garage? I would assume they would.

No actually. It appears the side cabinets are completely open to the slide out garage. Nothing to keep stuff from falling into the middle.
I went through ours and put a few self tapping screws to hold the paneling, as it was continually popping off with the very small brad nails.
I went to CW to get propane today and looked at a 2021 model. No paneling between any of the cabinets. Wide open side to side.

The early years for 3790/91RD did not have the paneling and them in 2018 they added the paneling for a few months and then quit putting it again. Our 2018.5 had it.
