North American Fall Rally - Interested in a Ham Radio License?
We have talked to many of the members at the last rally about Amateur radio (Ham Radio) Lisa and I are willing to hold a test session at the rally if any one is interested in becoming a new Ham or upgrading a current license. Reach out to Us and I can provide preparation. With about 15 mins. a day and a few weeks , we can have you ready to take the Exam. There are plenty of RVers on the Air and it can be a lot of fun when you travel. Also, any current Hams that are general class license holders can join our Volunteer Examiners team to help with our Efforts. So far we have had plenty of interest but we wanted to really get the word out.

New Session?
LJSantore
Are you proposing this as a new session to be put on the schedule for this year's MOC North American Rally? If so, please see the forum post link here to submit your idea for the Wagon Master Team to review.

Appreciate your involvement and looking forward to seeing you at the Rally!

Yes! we also submitted the idea for a new forum to the Wagon Master. But there is no purpose taking up a forum space, if there is no interest. Thanks! Lisa

Lisa - Jerry Thorsell N1AVY here. I'm an Assistant Wagonmaster this year, and if the team approves your request regarding a VE Test Session, I'd be glad to help if I can. I'm an Amateur Extra, and interested in the VE program. Also, getting any Hams together after the Test Session could be fun!

Well I'm studying my scrawny butt off no matter what is decided. I've been pleasantly surprised at what all I remember and shocked at the things that I don't. Ticket having been expired for 20 years doesn't help matters a lot. Either way the entire idea has been a good refresher.

Jim and Lisa,
I hope this goes for you! I know Denny (DH) KA9VRX loves his radio time. He holds an Extra class license and is a current VE! We will keep our eyes open for further updates!!!

Jim and Lisa -
Do you need to buy the tech book? What other things are needed ahead of the test (or will this be a class)?

Been an amateur for over 30 years, but not active anymore. Still have a dual band rig and my Yaesu FT-900 CAT HF rig in case I ever get the bug back.
Recently I discovered my license had expired 23 days ago! Same with my brides! I must have last renewed them at the same time.
I worked too hard to get to extra class to let it go so I stumbled my way thru the FCC / CORES system and got them both renewed. (2 year grace period) cost $35 now each to renew, but now I’m good for another 10 years.
73 all!

So the question has been posted about study material for the Ham radio License Test. We DO NOT intend on holding a study seminar, we are ONLY holding a Test Session, therefore you must study ahead of time ON YOUR OWN. A good source of information on study material is www.arrl.org They have all of the books to study for the exam. You can also get a free study app for I-phone or Android. There are three levels of License The first is the "Technician and the second is the "General" and Lastly the "Extra Class" If any one is wondering about a Lapsed License the requirement to reinstate is only to pass the Tech exam and the FCC will grant you the Highest license that you can prove that you have held. Before testing please go to the FCC web site and apply for a FRN # We will need this for your application. Here is the Link to register https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support...c-registration.
There are also several Ham Study Assistance on You Tube.
We will continue to share LINKS for Ham Study as we find them.

HAM RADIO TESTING at the RALLY IS A GO!
We are working with Jerry Thorsell, Asst. Wagon Master with details.
We will update here with information as we get it.
All everyone has to start doing is to STUDY! We will soon have a sign-up list to know who is genuinely interested in testing.
If anyone wants any further information: Private Message me- LJSantore.
There is also another forum on this topic under the Community Tab, Social Groups, where you can ask to Join as a Member, and we will add you to the Forum.
Thank you for your interest!

Hey Cindy, and whomever has this question....
ARRL.org is the national association of ham radio operators... Amateur Radio Relay League. Their website has TONs of info about ham radio, including a section on Licensing. They have three study manuals for sale that directly prepare you for the three levels of licensing exams. I FULLY recommend purchasing the manual for the license you anticipate testing for.
There are a number of online test practice apps available. I used Amateur Radio Exam Pro to prepare for all three exams, and passed each the first time up.
Jump in, study, and be ready to test in September!!
Jerry
