Westbound I80 to Goshen
Seeking some basic information on best route to take to drop down to Goshen. GS trip advisor recommends exit 40A to US35/20 into US33 which seems reasonable.
Also on I-80, about how many toll plazas are we dealing with between Illinois and Indy. I found one at the I-294/80 (plaza 45) junction for about 5 miles (medium truck 3 to 4 axles -$2.80 cash) and then it looks like no more tolls on 80/94 into Indy, if you get off at exit 40. For West coast travelers getting an EZ-pass is not a very useable item, if you don't frequent the Eastern part of USA, so cash and credit card seems the best action.

Henry, I think you are correct, only one toll plaza, but go any further east, watch out. Quite a sticker shock for us westerners. You can avoid that toll plaza by going through South Holland. We did that last year and not a bad detour if you need to make a pit stop, but for $2.80 stay on I-80 to avoid city traffic.
Last couple of times I bailed off I-80 at South Bend (I think exit 72) took 20 and 33 to Goshen; but always wondered if there was a better route.

Scott's last paragraph is your best bet. That is the way we come into Goshen every year and it's an easy drive. The $2.85 isn't that bad considering having to zig zap multiple places through city traffic to avoid toll booths. Good luck and see you in Goshen!

Are you Westbound or Eastbound?

No Edit capability, Sorry. It should have been "FROM Westbound I-80 to Goshen" and yes it would be Eastbound. So far, from I-65 to Goshen, the distance and times are about the same, whether I go I-94 (exit 40A) or stay on I-90/80 to exit at County road 17 and down to Goshen. I'm leaning more towards the I-94 direction of hiway 20 to hiway 33.

Signed up for EZ Pass IN online but can't get the transponder in time to campground I am staying at in WI. I have no intention to try to navigate my 5er to a IL or northern IN CVS where the transponders can be purchased. So cash or online payment after the fact is how I am going to have to deal with the tolls. I 94 to exit 40 is the route I intended.

You might want to check with the EZ pass folks. If you have your truck and rig on their site, you may not immediately need the transponder. I went on one trip to IL without the transponder. They matched the license number and charged the card.

Good idea. Unfortunately EZ Pass IN does not make it easy to contact them. I went ahead and followed your lead and I guess we will see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

EZ Passes can be purchased at some Interstate Rest Areas.

I could not find any instances of that in IL or IN. Perhaps that is the case further east. Bummer.

Sorry, almost everyone on the Ohio Turnpike. Got ours years ago via snail-mail.

I usually get off I80 and get on US 30 when I head east.

Take 80/94 east into Indiana. Drop down to US30 on I-65. Head Eastbound on US 30 toward Plymouth,Indiana. Take HWY 31 North to RT 20 Eastbound to Goshen, avoid tolls not a bad drive.
