Friend of mine was just dealing with this issue on a light colored carpet. She used Peroxide (not the hair stuff, the other)

She said it worked pretty good. I would strongly suggest if you want to try it, rinse out well. Peroxide can if left too long actually "rot" away fabric.

I personally love Spot Shot, found at Wal*Mart. I have NOT used it on coffee stains, but it has taken out pet messes, tar, and other un-identified messes.
