Truck tires, not the 5er
After close to 5 years and about 48K miles, I need new tires on my truck as the backs are real close to the wear bars.
OMG!! Sticker shock!
The Micelin Defenders that I'm using now are about 50 bucks more per tire. Then my installation quote from the guy who had been doing it via local mobil service went from $24/tire to a highway robbery figure of $50. He's no longer on my list of chosen local vendor$
It looks like I wont be using Michelins and will be looking at possibly a Toyo at about 65 dollars less per tire. Do you folks have any comments, plus or negative about that brand?
Note - did Simple Tire change their format and business model? I looked at their site and had problemsnavigating it with any ease as it was before.

I have always found Michelins worth the $. Quiet, smooth, good wear and traction. Good tires are worth spending a few bucks on.

We've currently got these:
Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT #742104681
Smooth, quiet, and with about 15,000 miles on them no issues whatsoever.

I recently sold my 2012 F350 SRW and the last tires I put on it were Sailun Terramax (18") and they served me well for 2 years. Put about 40,000 on them and were still going strong. I bought them based on the service I had on the fiver tires by Sailun. Set of 4 about $650 out the door to include alignment.

When the time comes, I might look into the Sailun Teramax, having good luck on the RV some might give a try for the TV.

Ran Toyo AT series on many of my trucks.. good tire.. I wasn’t liking the mileage I was getting on current GMC Duramax and went to the HT series tires at recommendation of our local tire shop..
I’m quite impressed with wear after 3 years towing fifth wheel.. much better tread life.. and I’ve towed the fifth wheel in about 6 inches of snow over a Mtn pass coming out of Montana last year... no issues with traction

I'm amazed someone hasn't mentioned the Sailun Terramax already!

I tried the Sailun Teramax on my Ram 3500 SRW... They lasted 18k miles. I tried them after only getting ~28k from a set of Michelin Defenders...
Both Tires felt fine as far as ride/handling, the Sailun we about 60% of the Defender price.
I bought the Sailun at Wal-Mart... won't do that again.

18k miles is awful. One thing I've noticed is the Ram does go through tires quickly. My Michelins are fine so far.
One thing to look into is Michelins sold by Costco are made by someone other than Michelin under contract. At least they used to be.

I can't use COSTCO - the NY Capital Distict just doesn't have a store yet but one is expected, too late, next summer. The nearest COSTCO for me is over 100 miles East, West or South. My choices are Tire Rack which has gotten more expensive then the locals, Simple Tire who are ignoring my request for an installer or a local seller who might match Simple's prices. Negotiations are in progress.
Look at the customer reviews for Sailun Terramax on Simple Tire. Not very good

You asked about who makes the best tire and everyone has a different opinion. Like I said before just go to the tire store. Tell them what you are looking for in a tire and they should get you the correct tire for your truck. They want you to get the tire that will make you happy so you will come back and buy more tires from them. Costco doesn't carry as many tires as a tire store.
Americas tire is a good
Les Schawb is good.
Most tire manufactures also have stores but they only sell there brand of tire.
EVERY brand of tire may have a bad tire once in a while. It's just like cars not every one is perfect but they try.

My last set of Sailuns for the fifth wheel were from Walmart ,great service ,and price .. They were actually cheaper ,and a newer DOT then from Simple tire ,that I sent back .
Your mileage out of tires should be telling you something, first 28K out of what a 60K tire ,and 18K out of a 40K tire . Pretty sure there is no tire that is going to give you good mileage with your style of driving.

I just put the new Toyo Open Country A/T3's on my 2020 Duramax and towed for the first time with them. They are quiet and smother riding than the Goodyear Wranglers that came on the truck, and they look super nice. I went with a 295/65R20 on my factory rims

Toyo Open Country ATII on my second set. First set went over 50000 miles with no problems.

In February of this year, i put on the Continentals AT. Have really liked them ever since. Toyos are good tires overall. I too couldn't afford the Michelin tires.
BTW: They did good driving on the sand here in Washington State yesterday. Do not hydroplane with all the rains here on the Coast. Cannot let tires get in the way of picking up fresh oysters.

I've had 2 sets of Toyo tires in my lifetime and neither were any good IMO. They were all terrains however. I have used Michelin Defenders exclusively for several years but like you noted, they are getting nose bleed expensive. A fellow on another forum bought the Sailuns for his TV and has been very happy with them. He went from the Defenders to the Sailuns. I'll probably do the same when the time comes.
