Propane Cost
We are spending a month in Richland, WA and I went into Oxarc in Pasco to fill two propane cylinders (7 lb.) The cost, $58. They charged me $4.09/gal plus $1 hazmat charge. A mile away, at Pasco Rentals, 1.69/gal. Price gouging, and they don't have the price posted, so you don't learn it until after the fill.
So, if you don't see it, ask before the fill.

Don't know how wide spread Tractor Supply stores are, but they have some pretty good prices. We filled one in New Philadelphia, Ohio for $1.99/gal. Filled a 30 lb. tank for $14 and some change. Not all stores have the facilities for filling tanks.

Good point, with propane you always have to check before taking tanks in to fill. Many times the folks who operate the campground or the hosts can direct you to the best place.

I had a tank filled at Tarira RV in Elkhart Ind. after the rally at 3.99 a gal. When I set the tank down for the guy to start filling he cracked the valve open and just started to vent the remaining product off. I asked what are you doing and he said he had to get the tank completely empty so it would hold 7 gals. At that point I closed the valve and told him to just fill the tank and stop venting it off for no reason. I finally figured out what he was doing when I looked up at the meter to see how many gals were going into the tank. The meter did not work so in order to justify charging for 7 gals they were venting the tank empty.. So no matter if you only needed 6 gals they charge everyone 7 gals.. I am sure this is not legal even in Ind. And to top it off this is a well know Montana dealer that does a lot of repairs to our trailers..

Just imagine what air quality/smog agencies would say about venting un-burned hydrocarbon gas into the atmosphere

That is why I really like the places that fill to correct weight. They take the tare weight, figure the weight of the full tank and fill until the scale zeroes out, then charge you a flat rate for the propane.

Tractor Supply is my favorite too. They charge you by the gallon for only what goes in and don't do that venting crap. If I can't find one wherever we are, I'll find a major propane dealer. They seem consistently low too.

Some of the campingworld's out this way sell propane for a decent price. Only problem is it costs me $100 or more every time I walk in the store
