2021 montana legacy
Good Morning, i am a newbie to fifth wheel rving , we have decided on purchasing a 2021 montana legacy 3121 , dual pane windows , king bed, 2 a/c units, washer/dryer , no generator, we are not full timers , just going to use it in the winter months in Palm Springs area, my question is this, i really like the new ford f-350 4x4 diesel standard box (6.75) single rear wheel, fits in my garage etc, has a payload capacity of 3950 lbs. does anybody have this setup if so could you share your pin weight? would install a pullrite super glide hitch approx 225 lbs, then figure 325 lbs for 2 passengers, a few tools, possible pin weight of 2800-3000 lbs? i would be close to limit of truck, any thoughts? Thank you John

Your doing the right thing to check what the pin weight is, also remember to add the weight of the people and animals and stuff you will have in the truck as well as a tank of gas. We ended up with a dually, because we couldn't buy tires that would hold the weight in the SRW configuration.

I would double check that 3950 payload capacity first. Check the gvwr on the specific truck you are looking at. Then subtract the truck weight plus passengers, dog, lunch box, etc. and see what is left. That will be its capacity. Advertised payload numbers do not always give the correct number.

my 3120RL's pin is 3100 to 3300 depending on the "stuff" I just had to bring along.

Unless Keystone has changed, you might want to cancel the King bed, which is really a King mattress on a base made for a smaller mattress , that is , the sides and foot end of the king mattress has no support under it. The mattress is not that good anyway so save your money to redo the base that will support a king, or just forget the king, and get a quality queen mattress

The must have changed them. We have a king. The base is full length of the mattress and 67" wide. Our mattress is 72" wide.
You're right about the mattress not being the best. We replaced ours with a pocketed coil. As comfortable a mattress as we've ever owned.

Since it was thicker I had to cut a few inches off the bottom of the headboard so I would fit snug against the wall. Pretty simple operation. Removed it, peeled the vinyl back along the bottom, cut the board and foam, and screwed the vinyl back on with short large headed screws. Very pleased with the result.

Welcome John. The last time I weighed my rig (see my signature box for rig details) I was over the GVWR, a duality would be better but I do see a lot of people towing heavier rigs with a 3/4 tone truck . Not sure how your rig will compare. See my measurements below.

We bought a 2020 a year ago with all options except paint. Glad we bought the generator, we don't boon dock but we use it all the time when we need to do things in storage or to cool down the residential frig before we leave.
We ordered a queen bed and are very happy with the extra room. The queen they put in is a really good mattress, much different then the kings in the stock ones we saw.

Just because people do it, doesn't make it right.
Do you remember your Mother asking you "If all your friends jumped off a cliff to their deaths, would you follow them??" when you did something really stupid.

I have a 2019 3791RD which is a bit larger and longer than the 3121. I also have a 2014 F350 SRW and my pin weight according to cat scale is 2955 lbs. I'm under payload max with truck and trailer completely loaded by about 450 lbs. Never had a problem towing with this setup. As stated above, I would make certain that the specific truck has the payload rating you need. Each truck varies based on trim package and options from the factory.
Safe travels.

Go with a long bed. It adds a lot more CC and the fuel tank is 14 gallons larger.

A long bed doesn’t add any cargo capacity over a short bed in the same (F350) model. A long bed truck is heavier than a short bed, so it actually reduces cargo capacity.

Your flat out wrong. Try reading the specs on Fords web site before you post incorrect information. The long bed maxes out at 4580 for cargo capacity for a 2020.

How about you provide a link to the information that you are reading? Both a short bed & a long bed can be optioned with the 12,400# GVW package. Cargo capacity = GVW-the weight of the actual truck you buy. A long bed will always weigh more than an identically optioned short bed. Also, more fuel = more weight, that is also subtracted from the GVW, which also equals less cargo capacity.

Look it up on the 2020 brochure. A 2020 CC SW long bed can carry 4580.
A super cab long bed can carry even more.

No, it cannot, unless you go to a dual rear wheel which is only offered in a long bed. That is where the difference is. A single rear wheel has a maximum GVW of 12,400# in either a short or a long bed. You, Sir, are wrong. Try having your ducks in a row before you post erroneous information.

Go read page 27 of the 2020 Super duty brochure. Ford doesnt even off a short bed with a GVW of 12,400. The 12,400 GVW is only available in a CC SRW long bed 4x4.
Did you even read the brochure before posting?

The brochure is wrong, then. You can go to the build & price site & spec an F350 short bed with the 12,400# GVW. It is the default value for ALL F350 SRW trucks, regardless of bed length or cab configuration.
