Filling dually tires
We just bought a 2003 Ford f350 dually. How do you folks check and fill the inner tires? Looks like a pain. Does anybody use the system that fills both from one valve. Also the past owner included the tire monitoring system that has special valve caps and a wireless monitor for the dash.

To give you info on the tire monitors you'll need to tell us the brand and model. On the tires on my Dodge I just use a tire gauge and tire filler that you use on semi trucks. Got both at NAPA. One thing on my Dodge, I've never had a dually ford so don't know if they're the same, the outer wheel can only be mounted one way or the inside wheels valve is very hard to get too. If the outer wheel is mounted right it's not bad, but only one combination of stud holes will work, mounted on any of the other hole combinations the tire mounts fine but the valve on the inner tire is almost completely hidden. I learned that at a tire dealer, mine came from the factory mounted however they hit and so the valve was very hard to work with.

Lots of valve stem extensions for dually available at any auto parts store, Ford dealer, etc.

Dan,
we have a Ford duelly with steel wheels.
needed a certain air chuck with a straight head to line up with the valve.
here is the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
my tire dealer recommended to NOT use long valve extensions.

You'll also need a tire gauge that has the same type of end on it so that you can check your outside and inside tires.

Had all my tires replaced last summer before heading back to Texas from Wyoming. I decided to check the air in my tires the other day and when I got to the back I found the tech had mounted both rears where I cannot get to the inner tire valve stem. Great! Now I'm going to have to jack up the truck, remove and reclock the rear tires. Moral of the story? If you have tires mounted check before you leave that the tech clocked them correctly!

Do not use the solid valve extensions on rubber valve stems. They will leak. Learned the hard way 2 inside tires on dually went flat.

Hi,
I recommend going to a trusted tire shop and get set up with their recommended valve stem for the inner tires. Don't sweat the cost - the proper ones will probably save you a pair of tires by ensuring you can verify all tire pressures. Also recommend a remote sensing thermometer to keep tabs on tire, bearing, brake, and rad temps.

As long as you use an air chuck mentioned earlier and carry same type tire gauge, you'll not have much issue when topping off a tire as needed. I'd stay away from standard T adapters that lets you fill both tires at once ... if you puncture one tire ... both will go flat.

The dually air valves should be mounted 180° from each other. That will keep the wheel set balanced and ensure the inner valve stem is visible through the outter wheel holes. Use a two sided air chuck for duallys. I have pass through valve stem caps so you don't need to remove them.
Most car tire shop don't have a clue how to mount them properly.
