Shortcut from Amarillo to Las Cruces??? Lonnie?
Is there any even from Oklahoma City, that would go around Albuquerque?
I can read the map, but pulling a Montana, with the height and mountain roads, would like some first hand advice.
Thanks, Ozz

Ozz, take I-27 South from Amarillo, to US 60 West at Canyon. Stay on 60 to Clovis, NM, then take US 70 South to Portales, Roswell, Ruidoso, and Alamogordo, to Las Cruces. You will cross 2 mountain ranges, the Sacramento and the Organ Mtns. Both are passable year round unless there is a freak storm. The roads were good to excellent the last time I went across there. Lots of big trucks take this route, so they keep it in pretty good shape.
Another way would be on US 60 through Clovis, Ft.Sumner, Vaughn, and Mountainair, to I-25 at Bernardo, then south to Cruces. This route is the easiest as far as mountains go, and the roads are good, but only 2 lane, and the weather is sometimes unpredictable around Vaughn and Mountainair.
Honestly, I wouldn't be afraid of either route.

Thanks, Guys.
A neat by-product of this route would be seeing Clovis!
We will see. I like to stay on the safer limited access roads when towing, when we can.
I know we miss much, but am a little anal about it.

Lol, we did live in Clovis for several years Ozz. For the last 15 years we have lived 13 miles northeast of there, but I still say Clovis when anyone asks where I live. Clovis, Texico, and Farwell are pretty much all the same place to me. The young son goes to school in Texico, the wife works in Clovis, and I work in Farwell.
Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you Ozz .
On Edit - They are all real close together, a railroad track separates Farwell, Tx., and Texico, NM, and Clovis is 8 miles west.
