My best guess is I would have to put 10K into it to fix all the current issues doing most of the work myself and deal with the down time. And who knows what is next to break. It is a 2001 dually even the clear coating on the aluminum rims is gone and oxidised how much longer before they start to crack.
My last truck ended up with frame rot and a cross member was flapping in the breeze. I welded it but it was always iffy come inspection time.
I do most of my own work but if I'm in a jam time wise or other personal reasons and it ends up in the shop it is generally about 1K on average. Last one was front hub assembly failure on the interstate which took out the pads/ caliper and rotor along with the ABS sensor built in to the hub.
Even if I bought a mini 4x4 truck it would be 30K and then the 10K to fix the one I have now I'm at 40K and The problems will continue. I doubt this truck will pass inspection come September.
It is the metal that is flaking from the frame and a whole slew of electrical problems some of it is corrosion related. Did I mention that the oil pan is rotted too. I JB welded twice and ground down the surface rust cleaned with brake cleaner but there are still pin holes that crop up. Last week the blower quit. Power door locks no longer work.
Sometimes depending on the temperature outside. When I use the drivers door window control the Horn goes off and wont stop until I put it in neutral and shut the truck off to stop the horn (yup figure that one out)
Then I would be registering and insuring 3 vehicles.
I honestly thought of even looking into a used motorhome for 60-70K and I would still have to get a daily driver and a trailer to tow the daily driver behind the motorhome. Now I'm approaching the 100K mark and that is a used MH. She really wants one (so she thinks, she would be up walking around while I drive)
She is not that stable on her feet as it is and that just seems like more bruising when I take a corner or hit the brakes.
Currently I'm averaging 9.9 ~ 10 Mpg towing the Monty and 13.7 Mpg around town.
Factory spec new is 2001 7.3L IDI
250 @ 2,600 (auto trans) Horse Power
505 @ 1,600 (auto trans) Torque
4 speed automatic transmission
I haven't dyno checked but I'm sure with 200K on the clock. New injectors will be needed soon so there's another 1K or 2K not counting my labor or shop labor, and I could chip it but I'll still have all the electrical and mechanical problems.
From the Ford web site:
Horsepower 385 @ 5500 rpm (6.2L V8 gas engine)
405 @ 4500 rpm (6.2L V8 gas engine)
HP 440 @ 2800 rpm (6.7L Power Stroke™ Turbo Diesel)
Torque 860 @ 1600 rpm (6.7L Power Stroke™ Turbo Diesel)
Transmission TorqShift® 6-speed SelectShift Automatic™
So with the gas motor I would gain 130Horse but loose 100ftlb torque and I will change the gearing to get me closer to the Much higher RPM's with the gas motor maybe go with 4.30 vs the standard 3.73 gears if I were to get one off the dealers Lot I would not be able to spec out the gearing so I would have to order.
I'll have to make some immediate repairs to patch this truck for inspection while I wait on ordering one.
Questions are always good and thanks for your response.

Just my 2 cents, why not buy a new car since it's a every day driver and keep your existing trailer and truck, it really sounds like you don't use it enough at this time to make sense of a new truck, if your work requires a truck that changes things some
