colorado registration taxes
I am thinking about registering my truck and montana in Jefferson county Colorado (Lakewood, CO). I own a 2004 Montana and a 2002 F-350. Does anyone have a ballpark figure of what I can expect to pay for registration and yearly taxes on the truck and trailer? If the cost is too high I may have to register them both in Wyoming. Thanks for your input.

I live here in Colorado and I have a 2003 Dodge. Plates for this next year were 250.00. As for the trailer it is a 2006 2980 and the first year was 998.32. Now I work with a guy who has a 2004 2955 and his plates for this year were 750.00. Sorry for the bad news but Colorado sucks when it comes to license plates and gas taxes Al.

We have a 2005 3400RL. We relocated to Montana from California last November. When it came time for the registration on the trailer, I received the Ca. info. in the mail. It was going to be $574. When I went to the DMV here in Kalispell to reregister it for Montana it cost $174. and that is it for the rest of the time that we own it. Never have to register it again. Here if your automobile is over 11 years old you can pay a little more (very little) to have it registered for the life of ownership. Also there isn't any state tax here. Granted the politics are different to, but if they are saving me money I am all for it. LOL.

Tim,
I live in Douglas County - adjacent to Jefferson County:
2001 F350 - $281.05 2006
2003 2955RL - $242.64 2006
I also had to do an annual emmissions test on the 2001 diesel at $65.

Al,
There is something wrong with this picture on your friends 04 2955RL. There had to have been some sales tax in there (recent purchase maybe). My 03 2955RL has never been that high - even the first year plates.

That was the second plate he put on the trailer in other words it was his renewal and thats what he told me so there was no sales tax on the unit. As far as my unit goes there may of been some sales tax on mine but i cannot tell from the registration. Al

Rich,
You're right, I'm thinking my plates on the new TV will come close to $1000. Once again, may I ask for any assistance from MOC members who feel sorry for me and wish to contribute! Seriously our plates AND our gas is so much higher it doesn't seem fair.

Rich,
Annette just looked, the trailer's plates this year were $1,054.70. We also live in Douglas County but the area we live has about as high of taxes as there are in CO. Even the dealer was amazed. Once again to assist me in my dilemma please send contributions to.......

Rich,
Be careful I'll blow the whistle, AND you get gas for FREE, well compared to us!

Retired in Colorado and moved everything to Tennessee. Truck (2004 3500=$49.00, Trailer (2004)$24.00. No state income tax on pensions or savings accounts. Had the titles already so NO sales tax. Colorado wants sales tax everytime the vehicle is sold to a new owner.

We live in Elbert County in CO. Our 2003 diesel this year is $285.00 Trailer was little over $200 this year, for our 2004 that we bought new in 2005.
Our sales tax in this county is 2.9 when buying a new vehicle or trailer. Denver and suburbs is close to 8.0. Every county in Colorado is different.

Dusty,
Maybe I should reconsider buying your house and moving to Elbert County.

Brad,
The first time I saw one of those Hummer Police vehicles I about drove off the road. I was wondering what people who live there thought of that. GEEZ!

I live in Greeley which is weld county. I'm not aware of the differences in the countys but I do know that when you license things in Colo. that they don't go down much untill they are 5 years old. I have a Harley that I paid 250.00 on for a plate this year and it's a renewal. The bike is a 2005. It's the ownership tax that kills you. But like they say Tis a privilage to live in Colorado. With junk roads and the some of the highest fuel prices in the country. Al

Al,
You're right. I might grumble about taxes, but sure like living here (of course I'm a native so I don't know anything else to compare it too).
I just re-registered my 1952 Cushman Eagle and it was $33.00 (10% of it's original MSRP) The insurance was 50% of MSRP. Just imagine if those numbers applied to our trucks and Monty's - YIKES.
Mac - I sat down with a Lone Tree Policeman at the car wash last weekend. He said those Hummer 3's were the lowest bid! They were almost $5K less than the Chevy Trailblazers they thought they were going to get. He said all they have done is explain to the public ever since, and they really are not that functional as police cars, as they are hard to see out of.

Well, I decided to register my truck and trailer in South Dakota. It turns out that Wyoming is just as high as Colorado (amazing huh?) Wyoming actually uses the same formula to calculate tax. South Dakota is cheap.
