Another DISH question
Got a new model Tailgater & receiver that work well. Problem is getting Dist to change our current location so we can get local programming. We're currently near Denver and I called them today. Rep. said she'd changed our location without changing our home address, but we still have our sticks & bricks home channels (but can't view them) and nothing else. I tried pulling power and re-starting the receiver, but nothing changed. Is there a secret code phrase needed to get them to change our viewing channels??

I tell them very specifically I am in our RV outside of our home area and I want to change our service address and that the billing address does not change. Have never had a problem with that yet.
Now occasionally I may have to reboot the receiver a couple times before the local channels would show on the channel guide, and a few times it took 10-15 minutes for the nearby locals to show up. But it has always worked.
One time I called and went thru the routine. And after some time the locals never showed up. Called again and spoke with a different person. This one said the previous lady did in fact change the service address, but forgot to send the signal to our receiver. He did that and the locals soon appeared.

Walt,
Bill is right. I never call however. I login to my account. They have a chat feature in the support tab. I login to the technical support (NOT customer service) using my PIN number. I give them my new service address and ask for locals. They send a signal and I log off and finish setting up the rig.
It normally tanks about 10-15 minutes as Bill says. On a rare occasion, the locals don't come through and I have to login to chat again.
Hope that helps.
Ken

BB and Brenko are correct. I ask for an RV Specialist--either tech or service. I get the service address change as requested. It usually takes 15-20 minutes for the sat to get the signal and download correct programming--yes -- go thru the unplug, acquire signal, download program guide--ready to go. I like the chat idea and will use it when wifi supports good contact.

Log on to your Dish account and do it using the "chat" feature. Works better than calling.

Interestingly enough, the two times I've tried it, I wasn't able to get someone with the Chat feature. Window just sat there empty.
Just tried it again and got no one. Just an empty box that does nothing.

OK - I used IE (which I don't use but is still on my PC)and got someone. First off, he admitted that they have 'issues' with the current Firefox and Google Chrome. Then he insisted that they had to change our 'service address' for the local programming to appear. Since that won't work, I'm back to phoning and insisting on getting someone who knows what they're doing.

Same here. Once I started asking for an RV specialist the problems ended.

I have found it takes sometimes about a 30 min for it to "kick in" to the new location and I have to reset and rescan MANY times and sometimes like was said it only takes 15 min and one rest... so ya gotta be patient sometimes,I travel all over and have to change receiver addresses all the time and I got the "routine " down good but when I first got it I called Dish many times telling them it is not switching over ,now I never call I just give it time to do it's thing

Bigsky are you saying you don't need to call if you give Dish long enough it will figure out where you are and you can get the local Channels without calling?

The "Service Address" is how DISH determines what locals to provide you. This is how everyone else gets their locals changed when they move. You don't want them to change your "Billing Address".
What is it about changing your Service address that won't work? Do you have other DISH units at home that people are watching??

Nope you still have to call to change receiver addresss,I was saying I never call anymore if it takes awhile to change over It always does sometimes it just takes longer and now I know that, also I never call for anything other than changing receiver address, sometimes I think I know more how to fix a problem than they do
