found a new place in my 3400
I was looking at the monty today and found a new place to unlock for storage in my 3400 just above the vacuum cleaner is a pretty good sized place to store things if you look in from your front cabnet you see above the vacuum is just a wasted space so I'm building shelves and a new cabnet door for the front and going to give it a use lol good luck it's always fun to come up with something new lol

Please post pictures. I've been looking at this space for over a year and asked it someone had done something. Let us know how you make sure the stuff isn't going to fall or hurt the pipes to the sink. We have a small door (Actually a drawer front) that was made for our previous 5er and never used. I think this would be a great place for the vac hose and/or tools.

Wine rack sounds neat! Do you think there is that much room in there?

I thought my 3400RL had enough storage. This sounds like a great place to put some of those big awkward items. I look forward to the pictures....

That is also a great place, (and a good do it yourself project,) to install an additional outlet.
I put one there for Steve and Vicky, just get an appliance repair cord, that comes with a male plug on one end, and wire it into an outlet plug, (duplex receptacle) cut in a box with fold out ears, and plug it into the 20 amp outlet the vacuum is plugged into, using a Two to One splitter. (Easier than it sounds)
Maybe Steve will post a picture for some show-and-tell.

Well after much thought and input from the Mrs. I'm going to leave this project for another day the wife wants me to make sure of this before cutting up her new monty and I said I would give her first right of refusal on this one lol the wine rack might not work as well qas I had thought because of the different angles but it sure would look good there so for now it's still under planning stages another concern is to make sure we put enough support for the edge of the counter as of now it's really not supported that well in this area I am going to install a outlet per Ozz's recomendation going to put it next to the vaccum very easy to do and a good addition if anyone else has taken on this project I'd love to see there ideas so I get this right when I do it. don't want a frying pan upside the head if I goof lol

In the 3400 the vacuum is located in the corner of the cabnets that hold the sink. on the couch side of the cabnets there are three cabnets to the right and one to the left the angled corner is what we are looking at if you open your cabnet and look inside you will see a good sized void

Just to not confuse everyone only the late 2005's on have the cabinet to the left. And you have to get down and look up to see the opening inside.
I disappointed you didn't get to do this. Maybe someone else will do it and then we won't be reluctant.

Cat, if you follow the counter from the tv area, it's right at the curve where it turns to go aft.
Tim, I'm looking at that area for some storage, too. Great idea. The only picture I have is of the outside, with vac and outlet installed. Cat, maybe this will help pinpoint the area. Except for the vac, the entire area up and down is pretty much empty except maybe some wires. For those with the vac, take out the four screws in the front and the vac slides right out. Then you can see what's available.
See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve,
Just curious, what will you be using the extra outlet for? Since you have one on the counter and then one in the island why the extra need? Of course I am not living in mine yet so one inquiring mind wants to know.
Hope you love your 3400 as much as your older Montana.

Unless it just doesn't show in the picture it looks like you don't have the outlet on the island at the bedroom end. We have one there.

Sue, we do have the outlet at the bedroom end of the penisula. Great for my coffee maker (which has to be put away after use) and for our electric griddle.
Colleen, we use the outlet to plug in a floor fan (summer) and space heater (winter). Much better than having cords stretching across the counter or room. Also use it to plug in battery chargers ... I tend to use the bedroom end of the penisula more so using the outlet at that end would put the charger right in the way of meal prep or whatever.
Those are just the two ways we've come up with, so far, to use the new outlet in the less-than-a-week that it's been since Ozz installed it for us.

We have found the more we use the unit, the more we find we could use an extra outlet or two, or ????
Al used one of those blanks on the walls (this one was in our livingroom/dinette slide) and changed to a plug. It is being used a lot!
Like Vicki, when we start plugging in battery chargers and the like, well, ya just can't have too many plugs!

Vicki,
I would love to have an outlet next to the stove so I could plug the coffee pot in there.
When we start using the Montana together for work your plug will be very nice to be able to plug a second computer in. Since you have slept in your 3400 more nights than I have mine I am always curious and also taking notes on peoples ideas. I have stopped jumping at every new thing that I think I have to have for the RV. Thus before we start punching holes in the walls and adding things I am trying to say "I really need to have such and such because I can't live without it."

We have a plug by the stove on the little counter between the stove and the frig. That is where the coffee pot goes. There is also one by the little cupboard above the island. That is where we plug chargers in. I wonder if they keeping changing these things too. I know we have an outlet between the bed and the closet that the newer ones don't have. The one we have always thought a little strange is the one in the big slide under the lamp. We have never used it.

Sue, we use that one for plugging in a lamp that sits on the table. Not as bright as the overhead lights. Bob also plugs in his power bar for his computer there. He uses a personal table under that area for his desk. I get the desk with my computer and the printer...
