Surge protector tripping

2024 Montana Legacy 3123 RL with built-in surge protector that is tripping with the generator. Shore power works just fine. Generator used is a 4700 Onan portable generator.

Has it been tripping the surge protector or did this just start?

You likely need a bonding plug for your genny.

We have the same setup, I always unplug shore power when running the generator, no issues.

A bonded plug should solve your problem. They can be bought or easily made. Get a 120 volt plug and connect the neutral terminal with the ground terminal. Just be sure you don’t connect the hot terminal with either the ground or the neutral terminal. Should cost a couple bucks and 10 minutes.

What surge protector do you have. The Progressive Industries Smart surge protector says it will continue to operate normally with an open ground, open neutral, or reverse polarity while indicating the issue via the LEDs.

Looks like a bonding plug should solve your problem.

I have the older progressive industries wired in , and all I have to do is switch it off at the display or I can use the bonding plug . Being an older one its the dumb one ,not smart .
