GFI Outlet
Have a 2006 Montana Mountaineer and the GFI breaker doesn't always want to hold. In some campgrounds, it works fine. In others, it'll trip in 4 seconds or less. Friend suggested that the polarity on the 50amp campground outlet is reversed. Any suggestions??

John-- Could be the polarity or it could be a loose wire in the CG box. I'd be contactng the CG staff and have them check the box.

If it happened in one campground, I'd blame the campground. If it has happened in more than one, I'm inclined to think it's the trailer. Like Rondo suggested, check the wiring on the GFI. And as I always say in electrical posts, if you are unsure of what you are doing, hire and electrician to do it! There's too much at stake.

Mine did this also. I found the problem in the box under the living room slide. The wire gets tugged at times when you extend, which causes a connection problem at the box. I fixed the problem and have not had problems since.

Excellent ideas guys. I'll be going out this weekend, and if the weather is nice, I'll be under/in to the Monty. Appreciate the ideas!!

I had the same issue on my living room slide. I didn't figure it out until I replaced my GFI outlet and still had the same issues.

I found that on the long slide, the junction box is located behind the wheels. This was not enclosed completly and rain water from driving got inside and sat in the wire nut. This caused the GFI in the kitchen to trip everytime. It was driving me nuts before I found it. I ended up pulling off the cover, cleaning and reattaching the wires, and then sealing the cover with spray plastic. I haven't had a problem since then. Hope that helps.

Thanks Rick! Now we all have another thing to check in our pre-trip inspections or just occasionally to be on the safe side! You said you used a spray on plastic to seal the box, where did you get that and what was it's name? It sounds like a good thing to carry in the Monte or just to have on hand to seal up leaks and etc (both small air and water)!

Rondo, it's called Plastic Spray & Ignition Sealer from "Gunk". Your right about another good thing to have on hand.
