5th Wheel Cover Info
Once again we’re leaving our MHC 323RL in Arizona and would like to protect it from the summer sun. Last year I covered it with a King Bird 37’ FW cover that fit great and held up well until September 17 when a wind storm with 70 mph+ winds split the cover right down the seams along the top and folded the sides down. The cover was replaced under warranty, and did serve it’s purpose well by protecting the rig from the summer sun. I have the new replacement cover sitting in the box to put on next month when we leave.
Has anyone found a better cover for a large FW that will withstand high winds and summer sun? That is the most damaging thing we experience where we are located. The wind at times is very strong and during storms reaches 70+ mph. We had the cover on very tight and had extra strapping around it every 6’ so it was wrapped up very snug, and it still eventually gave up.

I don't think anything will withstand 70 mph winds. You might try a rips top cover.

Rip stop is the material they use to make stunt kites and parafoils and parachutes etc.

Following this forum for several years I have come to the conclusion that covers cause more problems than they prevent. That is considering the cost of the cover, their short life due to wind ripping, to the rub marks they leave on your RV finish when the wind doesn't rip them off but moves them around. I know they do keep some of the harmful RV rays off plastic parts that are susceptible to sun damage. Some have suggested just painting those parts with a good plastic spray paint prolongs their life as much as a cover does.

Hello when I purchased my MHC HM372RD I was told it had a cover in the front compartment. I finally got around to pulling it out and was surprised at the size and the weight (200plus lbs) it is many pieces that velcro together and they seam to be insulated. Does anybody have an idea of what I have??

Throw it in the trash - covers are more trouble than they are worth and often do damage to the trailer.

Look at the two screen shots below…
1. Cover for the front compartment…could be useful if you plan on being stationary for some time. If you plan to use the RV for vacations and travel - put it on Craigslist with a photo like this for $100.
2. Cover for the whole RV. I agree with AZ Traveler…basically throw it away - however, our trash service would not pick this thing up. It would cost me $40 to haul it to the county landfill. Put it on Craigslist with a photo like this for $50 and someone will effectively haul it off for you.

Agree. Plus, a covered RV in the AZ sun will have inside temps that will do damage to just about everything....rubber, plastic, leather, seat covers, wood and everything else.
