Help!

I got new batteries yesterday, one was dead, the other was almost dead. This morning I have only 5 volts, plugged my harness into the truck to get 12v and still not working. I have lights on the RV, but the batteries are still draining. I know I can get my hydraulic slides in wi the manual override, but how do I get my electric slides in? We are leaving our site today.

To get the slides in check out the Lippert Now app for your phone. They have great support.

Check your battery cut off switch. It may be turned off

If you're plugged into shore power then the converter should power your 12v systems just fine, as well as keep your batteries charged. If that's not happening then I would suspect a bad converter. You can disconnect the leads to your battery and use a multimeter to check the voltage output from your converter while connected to shore power. If less than 13v then replace the converter.

I assume the OLD batteries were the ones that were dead/almost dead.

That implies the batteries have not been being charged for some time. Is there 13.6+V at the batteries when you are plugged into shore power?
If not, you need to find where the break is in the charging system. The Red Key disconnect switch in the convenience center is a common place. The 50 amp circuit breakers are another common problem.

Here is a link to a 12vdc troubleshooting flow chart:

P.S. You didn't accidentally hook the new batteries up backwards (even if for just a second) and blow the Reverse Polarity fuses in the converter?

The converter has been replaced and all is working as it should. I just slid the old converter out and replaced one wire at a time to make sure all went back where it should. Easy repair to do yourself!

If you are looking for a converter or other electrical needs for your RV, I bought the converter from www.bestconverter.com and it was priced at $279 + tax. They are located in Enterprise, AL and shipped out FedEx Ground to me. The guy that owns the business is retired military so I was happy to be supporting a Veteran owned business.

First place I would check is the battery cut off switch. It’s normally found in the convenience center. I know you are saying I didn’t cut it off. Believe me they have a way of getting turned off. Ask how I know.

This thread is a prime example why a properly installed shunt can be both a rather inexpensive and useful tool. It lets one know what amperage is going into and out of the batteries. A brand new pair of FLA batteries can be wiped out overnight without a charge being supplied to them. A shunt can easily show the relative state of one's batteries by using an bluetooth app for the device. Peace of mind in my books
