Hello everyone. Just got our new Montana and are hitting the road to Alaska from Phoenix Az. Thanks for letting me join and hopefully we will see some of you on the road.

Be sure to slow WAY down for the permafrost heaves in the road. When we went the first time, they had little orange flags on the side of the road to mark them. First one I saw, I slowed down to around 25-30 mph. Not that bad. So the next one I stayed at 45-50. I think everything in the coach got bounced in the air!

To figure out a route, I went online and looked at the itinerary for some place that led organized trips. Just followed their route and stayed at (mostly) the same cities on the way. I haven't been for 8 years, but there are decent place to fuel up. Oh, also get the Milepost book that is published yearly. Seems like restaurants and gas stations close quite often, so it helps when planning for lunch stops, etc.
Fairbanks had a sort of picnic in the park thing that had a restaurant (open air) and served something like 5 kinds of fish and some beef. We got to try 3 types of salmon and determine one was our favorite. Don't remember which type it was now, tho!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you. We drive it every year but because of the fires we are taking the Cassiar. This will be our first time with a big rig though. Should be fun and exciting. I drove that route years ago. Usually head to Dawson Creek and start there. They don't call it Destruction Bay for nothing. Longest 200 mile drive of the trip.

Some of the dirt roads are smoother than the paved. Allow a week to get through Yukon territory and the ALCAN.

We blasted thru Yukon in 2 days one trip. The other time we spent 4 days in Whitehorse resting and exploring.

Curious if you have a roadside assistance insurance plan that covers truck/ fifth wheel in both Canada and USA? Any recs out there? We will be headed that way in one year. Can't wait. 2021 3231CK Legacy FBP, Super Solar with 2 extra GC3 for total of 1080 amp-hrs. So far it hasn't failed me. Livin the dream.

Welcome to the site. I live in Wasilla Alaska and I drive the highways here for a living. They are one of the biggest peeves I have with the state because it seems like they only get worse as the years go by. Anyway make sure you pack a couple of replacement springs before you set out, shackles are a good idea as well. Better to have them even if you don't use them but places to get repaired here are few and far between. I would recommend you keep your speeds around 45 even when the posted speed is 65. The frost heaves will kill your trailer. On average I see a dozen trailers on the side of the road every year with busted springs and even bent axels. Just plan enough time between places that you do not feel pressured to go faster. There is a lot of road Contruction this time of year around the state so go slow through them. Have a safe trip.

Another note on your upcoming trip to Alaska, Just keep your speeds down. I cannot stress that enough. Two weeks agon on my return from Toke to Wasilla I was just east of Chistichina Alaska on the Tok cut off highway and was passed by a 3/4 ton Ford towing what appeared to be about a 38 foot Solitude with Florida plates on it. I was in my Peterbuilt doing 60 mph. He had to be going 70 or 75 when he passed me. When I got about 20 miles further down the road there he was at a bridge where he had hit a frost heave and had two broken springs and one missing tire that had sheared off the studs and the tire went off into the trees. I do not know if they ever found the tire but when I stopped, they said they were talking to a tow company from Glenn Allen to come and get the trailer. Speed will be your worse enemy on Alaska roads. Other than that its a great trip but take your time.
