As with anything horror stories will exist.
My experience:
I've been through 6 rv's and have yet to change out any OEM tires nor have had a tire failure on an rv. Typically we would see about 4k miles per year; so not a pile but not zero.
But... I'm religious about having the tires inflated to spec. I personally believe the failures are often attributed to either damage or low pressure in regards to the lower end tires. Either of these will cause heat, then failure which is often epic due to the close proximity to the very light fenders.
