My Son in Law has my old '03 Chevy/Duramax. It started doing something very similar about a year ago. It would start, run about 15 seconds then quit. The sensor for 'water in fuel' was not tight in the filter can, and the bleed plug also broke, so it may have had a crack in it also. A new filter and bleed plug fixed it, and the problem has not returned.
