Some people like being in the circle for the group experience. Other prefer to be outside the circle for extra freedom (i.e. leaving the dog off-leash). Depending on the location there is usually a limit on the number of rigs that will fit in the circle. If more folks show up than fit then some will have to be outside. As a first timer, definitely plan to be in the circle.

The typical circle has a radius of 150' and accommodates 51 rigs. Sometimes the circle is smaller. sometimes larger depending on the spot and the potential crowd. It is up to the WM and his helpers to figure our how many will be there, find a space, and layout the circle. It is safe to assume a rig in the circle will be around 150' from the fire (built in the center of the circle).
