We just went with a single canister, old fashioned kind, but with a good filter cartridge. Usually only have to change it once a year, but it sure does pick up a lot of clay, dirt & whatever. The good part is if you forget to take it apart when winterizing (like I did once), it doesn't cost much to replace after freezing & breaking.
