If the hitch is rated for X amount and the carrier is rated for X amount, stay within the lightest rating and use it. Any forces positive or negative are factored into the weight ratings. As previously mentioned, thieves are the biggest concern. That is the only reason I can think of to buy a brand x generator. Otherwise, get good stuff and enclose it, and have good insurance.
